In The Laidlaw Loop
Weekly Newsletter: October 28, 2022
Dear Laidlaw Families,
Last Friday all Laidlaw students were able to participate in a very exciting and engaging school assembly. Premiere Martial Arts Hinsdale hosted a martial arts demonstration class for our students. Our kiddos were up and active and learned so many neat martial arts techniques. The students loved it!
Our halls were abuzz this week with many exciting happenings. Our student council fundraiser to raise money for Breast Cancer (through American Heart Association) was in full swing. Classes donated money to make class paper chains. It has been so neat to walk through the halls and witness the generosity of the students and families. I also enjoyed getting to see students in STEM class test out their jousting cars. The project culminated in a "race" between student cars to see which jousting car popped the other car's balloon. It was a hoot! Finally, students are already in full Halloween mode. I've heard a lot (already) about our students' costume and trick or treat plans.
With that said, I look so forward to seeing you all on Monday at the Halloween parade. The current forecast calls for 62 degrees and NO RAIN! It will be a great day to celebrate as a Laidlaw community. All Halloween details are communicated in this update. And, as a friendly reminder, next Tuesday is a late arrival. Students arrive at 10AM.
Have a relaxing weekend,
Renee

WSFEE UPDATE
Do you have an idea to enhance the educational excellence of D101 school(s)? Visit the WSFEE website and fill out a grant application! During the 2021-2022 school year, six grants totaling over $30,000 were approved by the WSFEE Board. Two of these six grants were chosen from WSFEE’s first ever Big Idea Contest, where students were given the opportunity to submit ideas on how to make their school a better place. The WSFEE board carefully considers each grant request by evaluating the opportunity and benefits it creates for students. Visit wsfee.org or follow WSFEE on Facebook or Instagram (@wsfee_d101) to hear about events and sponsorship opportunities throughout the year.

Lunch Volunteers Needed
Laidlaw is looking for recess volunteers to support at lunch. As we did last year, we will be setting up a weekly schedule and pairing parent volunteers with grade levels during recess. The time commitment is 11:40-12:25, and we are looking for a weekly commitment (for example every Tuesday, or every Monday/Friday). One option that worked well last year for some parents was to split a day with another parent. Volunteering in our lunch room is a fantastic way to connect with the school community. Please contact Emily Haight (ehaight@d101.org.) if you are interested!
