Mr. Posick's Friday email

Winter Break is upon us

I don't know about you, but the Winter Break sure seemed to come quickly this year. It has been a great year of learning, collaborating, and innovation for our students and staff. I hope that I have shared some of the great things we are doing in these newsletters each and every week.

During Winter Break, I hope that you have fun with family and friends and get a chance to relax and enjoy some time off. I'd also like to ask you a favor. Our students are reading more than ever and we'd like to keep them in this habit. Please find some time to read with your child, maybe a little time each day, to keep their interest in reading at a high level. I have a personal reading goal for Winter Break. I want to read two books that I have been wanting to read- "Drive" by Daniel Pink and "Uncommon" by Tony Dungy. I'll let you know if I was successful after break.

Thanks to the Merton PTO

Thursday, the PTO organized a brunch for the staff at the Intermediate School. It sure was great to have some breakfast treats to start our day. Thanks to the PTO for organizing this and for all of the volunteers who provided the tasty treats. We are always appreciative of the support that the PTO and our families provides our school.

Merton Giving Tree

On Wednesday, Mrs. Emmerich, Karissa, and I had the joy of moving the presents from the office to the Giving Tree in the commons. Above is a picture of the final presentation. I can only say that it brought a tear to my eye as I saw the overwhelming generosity of the Merton families towards those in our community. Thanks to Darlene Hafferman for her organization of this fantastic opportunity.

Important dates

As you are aware, we have Winter Break starting on Saturday, December 21st. The students and staff will be on break through Wednesday, January 1st. Students and staff return to learning on Thursday, January 2nd.

Homework Club will resume again on Tuesday, January 7th from 4:15-5:15 in the Intermediate School library.

Happy Holidays!

I wish you and your family the happiest of holiday seasons and look forward to continuing our learning journey with you all in 2014. Thanks for your continuous support!
