The Principal's Desk At Sycamore

October 15, 2018

Dr. Crystal Cooper Thompson, Principal

Parents/Guardians,

We had a busy week this past week with several visitors and exciting moments for our school. On Tuesday, Mr. J. Alvin Wilbanks, our CEO/Superintendent visited our school and four classrooms (Schaaf, Goyal, Dr. James Davis and Berg). The visit was positive, amazing and humbling. To have him visit our classrooms and speak to students was an unforgettable experience.

On Wednesday, we had a pre-certification visit from the state STEM department to offer feedback to us about our STEM work. We feel excited about our progress and positive about areas to add to our daily math and science integration.

Additionally, we had various district teams visit us from the math,Title I and discipline office to offer support and the opportunity to view our classrooms and how our staff supports the integration of social/emotional learning on a daily basis.

Finally, our area board member, Dr. Mary K. Murphy, dropped by our school to hear from our amazing counselors about their RAMP application which showcases all of their outstanding counseling work and progress. Sycamore was definitely making its mark this past week! Thanks to our staff and students for being so impressive!

I also want to share with you how proud I was to learn that Sycamore was honored as one of the top 5% of Title I schools in the district and state based on the College, Career, Readiness, Performance Index (CCRPI) score. This is a prestigious honor and I can't be happier about how far Sycamore has come. Congratulations to you, our students and staff! Thank you for trusting us to lead and make a major difference in our community.

Parent/Teacher conferences are October 24th and October 25th. However, the entire week, teachers will be inviting parents and families in for discussions about student progress. We encourage you to bring your child so that they can speak on behalf of their work and progress and be included in the conversation. Please try your best to be in attendance for conferences and take the time to see how you can help your child soar and become even stronger academically and behaviorally.

Friendly Reminders

  • All visitors will be asked at the door who they are and their reason for entering the building by our front desk clerk. Always have your ID ready to show every time. Vanessa Camacho-Chapparo is our new front desk clerk and is happy to join our team. Please be patient with our new district requirement that ensures a stronger and safe environment for our school community.
  • We will begin our morning announcements at 8:45 AM daily and ask that all car riders are in their seats ready to begin their day prior to 8:45 AM.
  • We are going to use Mypaymentsplus for all of our monetary transactions besides small fundraisers throughout the year. Please make sure that you sign up for this with the information below.
  • We are infusing social emotional learning with our PBIS discipline program. Every classroom will have morning meeting daily where they will greet one another, share something based on a focused topic, engage in an activity and end with a morning message. This 10 minute activity every day ties to our AKS, but also helps to start the day off positively. Ask your child about the amazing experience.
