Take Home Books
Dear Parents,
Beginning next week your child will be bringing home a book from the classroom each Sunday. This book is in a separate bag inside your child’s bag. Your child has chosen this book, and it may or may not reflect their reading level. This is not important at this point in the year as we are focusing on students learning to read the pictures and understand the story of the book. We would like for you and your child to interact with this book in a variety of different ways throughout the week. Some suggestions include:
Sunday: take a picture walk through the book-use the pictures to describe what is happening in the book.
Monday: read the book aloud to your child.
Tuesday: do a letter or word hunt-ask your child to find letters from their name on each page, or look for sight words such as: I, like, me, see, a
Wednesday: ask your child to draw their favorite part of the book and describe it to you, retell the story from the beginning, or ask your child if they have a connection to the book.
Please return the book each Thursday in the Ziploc bag.
If your home language is not English, please feel free to complete these tasks and talk about the book in your home language.
Reading should be a part of your daily routine with your child. The most important thing that you can do is read aloud to your child. This can be their "take home" book, their library books, books from home in English, or books in your home language.
Enjoy your time reading together! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten TeamWriting
Math
This week students continued sorting objects in different categories. We asked ourselves: "How may ways can we sort?" They also learned to count to 5 in different configurations. We enjoyed playing the game "What's the missing partner?", and placing 5 objects in a horizontal or vertical line, circular way, on top of each other, and many more.

A Note From Our Learning Support Teacher
Welcome to Kindergarten at the American School of Doha! The American School of Doha’s Kindergarten teachers and the Support Services team wants every child to succeed in their educational development.
I would like to say, Hello and introduce myself and the Instructional assistant. My name is Kimberly Johnson and I will be the Learning Support teacher for Kindergarten this year. This is my first year at ASD but 28th year of experience supporting student learning. Together with, Ms. Aileen Cabarles the Instructional Assistant, we will be supporting all the Kindergarten students. Ms. Aileen Cabarles has been in her role at ASD for the past 3 years and some of the students are familiar with her from last year in PK.
Our team is thrilled to be supporting the Kindergarten students and teachers within the classroom setting. For the next few weeks, Ms. Aileen and I will be supporting all the Kindergarten students and their classroom teachers to ensure that everyone is off to a great start. We also look forward to working in partnership with you the parents, in an effort to ensure that together we help your child be successful and to reach their highest level of potential this year. Please know that we value your support and your time as parents and look forward to meeting you as the year progresses.
