BULLDOG BRIEF
PERSONALIZED. INNOVATIVE. GLOBAL.
School Board Update
The Board also discussed the mask use guidelines for students involved in activities with some parents who were concerned about students wearing masks during physical activity. Though no change was made to the policy, it was agreed that communication with the coaches from youth basketball teams on allowing players to lower masks as needed to help with breathing during practices should occur. HS Coaches and PE teachers have been allowing students to lower their masks when appropriate and as needed, but some youth coaches had not been allowing students to lower their masks during practices. We will continue to implement mitigation strategies that give us the best chance to have school on-site every day and for teams to complete their activities with as little interruption as possible.
The Board also learned more about the District's English Learning program from Ms. Stephens and Mrs. Teigland. As the District's enrollment increases, the admin team and Board will monitor the EL program to ensure all of our students' needs are being met.
The Board welcomes visitors to our meetings which occur on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Most meetings will take place in the East Dining Hall and all meetings are subject to change time and location as needed.

Spectator Guidelines
We have tried to put the best interest of our student/athletes as our top priority.
The following are guidelines to attend games at Van Meter:
- We will continue to use the name sign-in sheet at the gate for player’s households. Coaches have collected these names from our student-athletes.
- The adult ticket price will be $5.00 and anyone in high school or below will be $3.00.
- Masks are required at all times.
- Family units should sit together and maintain a 6 feet distance from other groups.
- We are encouraging fans to leave the gym at the conclusion of their child’s game.
- Please be respectful of others.
- If you are sick stay home.
- We will have limited concessions.
Our focus will continue to be to do all we can to allow our students to play. We will implement whatever mitigation strategies are needed to increase the chances of completing our seasons with as few cases as possible. Thanks for all of your help and support in allowing our students to have successful seasons.
Active COVID-19 Cases through January 22
Please do your part to continue to keep your distance from others. It is imperative we all do what we can for us to continue to go to school on-site full-time.
A few kids have been sent home with symptoms as well. Those students are allowed to return if they:
- receive a negative test result,
- see symptoms improve,
- and get a different diagnosis from a doctor.
Please do your part to keep us informed if you think your child has been exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school setting. Parents have been doing an awesome job of keeping kids home when they are sick. Keep it up!
Be sure to inform the district if anyone in your household contracts COVID-19. Students should not be at school if they have been exposed to a member of the household who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if they are sick. Remember that masks should be worn at school anytime students/staff cannot socially distance themselves from others. Masks will be worn more time than they are not.
We need to continue to encourage students to keep their distance, wear masks when they can't, wash their hands, and stay home when sick. We know it isn't ideal, but we all need to do our part to keep pushing through this pandemic.
We will continue to need your help in trying to keep the spread of COVID-19 limited. If in doubt, error on the side of keeping them home until we can help navigate the next steps with the Dallas County Health Department. Thanks!
