Principal Brief

The Fundamental Five

Continue to script your seed questions in your lesson plans. An important part of FSGPT is the practice of using preplanned seed questions. These questions guide the student conversations toward the desired learning outcome. Have you thought about posting your seed questions beside your "I will" statements? Could ESL students receive picture stems to use during purposeful talk? Are you planning with your team to develop good question stems? "You can teach what you have always taught. You can teach it almost the same way you have always taught it. Just add frequent, small group, purposeful talk. More of your students will learn of what you want them to know." Sean Cain

We will be reviewing math assessment data in grades 2-4, and unpacking the student expectations and generating seed questions in K-2.

I just finished reading a new Writer's Workshop book, Awakening Brilliance in the Writer's Workshop. It is about using notebooks and mentor texts in the writing process. If you would like to read it let me know. It's great! 50 percent of your writing time should be used for mini lessons, try-its and sharing, and 50 percent independently writing. Real writers have routines. Continue to make Writer's Workshop apart of of your daily routine. Check in on your Writing Martha this week. Our 4th graders are making wonderful progress!
