We started learning the concepts presented in "Topic 2". Our focus this week was on solving problems mentally, estimating, and then using the estimate to find the exact answer for addition problems. We also practiced finding the exact answer to addition problems. I reminded students to login to Envision at home and view the videos for the lesson if they were getting stuck on their homework. I hope this tool will be of help to them.

We also started to practice memorizing multiplication facts. Students made flashcards and should be bringing those home each night to practice. I ask that students practice 5 minutes each night to continue building those skills. We will do a timed test every Tuesday and Thursday in class.

A note from music

This week we learned about the subway (or the "underground") in England as we sang the song "To Stop the Train." We examined some British coins and created actions to go with the song. See if your child can show you the actions their group created!

We read an excerpt from the story "On the Banks of Plum Creek", which was written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We practiced finding and describing the characters in a story and identifying the setting of the story. As your child is reading at home, ask them to describe the characters of the story they are reading. We also are currently in the process of creating parodies about school. It is a lot of fun, and I love seeing the creativity pouring out of the students! I cannot wait until they finish them and share with the class.

Students finished up researching animals and plants in a certain habitat. They created a Google Drawing of the animal and a few of its adaptations. Students are now in the process of creating a Clarisketch to explain in more detail the Google Drawing they created.

PAWS Pride

This week our PAWS Pride lesson focused on expectations during indoor recess. The students discussed appropriate choices to make during this time and how to make positive choices when interacting with classmates. Our school has also decided indoor recess will be Chromebook free. This is another opportunity for our students to interact and socialize with their peers.
