Matey Message Week 13 November 8-12
Look with kindness and you will find wonder.
Dear Matey Families,
We have another exciting week ahead of us! There is a lot of information in this week's Matey Message! Reach out if you have any questions.
Monday brings our first all-school virtual assembly. Staff and students are invited to participate in a Zoom call with our NP3 Elementary Board Member, Ms. Sumiti Mehta as she shares important information about Sikhism.
Then, this Wednesday we invite all teachers and students to participate in NP3 Schools' Lights Out Day. NP3 High School students have invited all classrooms to rethink their use of electronics during the school day. The goal is to bring more awareness to how we use our resources. Students are encouraged to wear black and teachers are encouraged to teach using limited electricity.
This Thursday is Veteran's Day. We encourage all of our students to use the holiday to thank a veteran. One way our kiddos can thank our veterans is in letter writing. I have included a link for families who might be interested in supporting the non-profit, Operation Gratitude: https://www.operationgratitude.com/express-your-thanks-virtual/write-letters-virtual/letter-writing-toolkit/
On Friday, Natomas Unified will host its first (of two) free COVID-19 Clinics for students ages 5-11 and 12 and up. NUSD has fun activities (outlined below) to assist families at the clinic. In addition, Sierra Health is offering vaccinations. Below is more information and the links to sign up. Please call NP3 if you have any questions.
This week, I ask that families review appropriate restroom behaviors and expectations with their students. Our single temporary restrooms were closed for two days last week due to blockages. The blockages are caused by students shoving rolls of toilet paper and handfuls of seat covers down the toilet. Additionally, there is urine all over the walls in a couple of restrooms.
Proper Bathroom Etiquette:

Staff will also review expectations with students. After that, any destructive behaviors will be met with consequences. I really appreciate your help with our efforts!
Warmly,
Mrs. Dart
Sikh Awareness Month and Contest
During the month of November, California celebrated Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month. In support of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and our Sikh community, we invite all students to participate in a poster/writing contest to spread awareness and appreciation of diversity. Students are asked to illustrate the theme in a hand drawing or one-page essay about the importance/important information about Sikh culture.

Leader in Me: Imagine a World Shaped by Life-Ready Leaders
Parents are our students’ first teachers. They play a big role in helping children become leaders. Let’s partner with them in their efforts to coach the social and emotional development of their children. Get started by using these social media challenges in the tweets, texts, and posts you share with families.
Construction Updates:
On Saturday and Sunday (past weekend), our walls started to go up! As Mr. Rutten, our Executive Director likes to say..."looks like our legos are being stacked!" EXCITING!
COVID-19 Updates: Sierra Health and Natomas Unified School District (NUSD)
Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has received emergency use authorization for 5 to 11-year-olds. Below is information about how to schedule an appointment for My Turn California and COVID-19 (through Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) and Sierra Health).
Families looking to vaccinate children ages 5 to 11 can visit myturn.ca.gov or contact their primary care provider for available appointments, however, it will likely be a few more days until appointments for this age group are widely available.
Some providers, including retail pharmacies, are already scheduling appointments on their websites, but many providers are still receiving their pediatric vaccine supply and making final preparations to vaccinate 5 to 11-year-olds.
Natomas Unified School District (NUSD) COVID Clinics 11/12/2021 and 12/03/2021
Both are walk-in clinics. NUSD will have service dogs, bubble machines, a movie, stickers, suckers, and otter pops. Dr. O has a shot-blocker and Pain-ese to minimize the shot pain.

From NUSD Superintendent Evans:
NUSD Staff and Key Stakeholders,
In this extraordinary time of a pandemic, political divisiveness, and other stressors our plates are already full. But I am asking for your help right now. It can be a quick effort or extended - your choice. I promise that your feedback matters and IS NEEDED because a decision in 13 days will radically change how this district is led and your students are served.
Below are questions that I need you to consider. You can answer 1 or all of them (and everything in between). This can be anonymous or if you share your email we will share a participation badge you can add to your email that recognizes your assistance. We don’t even need your name. Just an email gets you a badge.
