SHS FFA awarded the IASWCD Friend of Conservation Award

On the 9th of January, 2018 three FFA members, Kaitlyn Borden, Lauren Hamelman and Kaitlinne Moldero, traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana with advisor Caroline VanGosen. They were able to attend the IASWCD (Indiana Association Soil and Water Conservation District) Annual Conference Awards Luncheon.

While attending the luncheon, FFA was awarded with the IASWCD Friend of Conservation Award. This particular Friend of Conservation Award goes to a non-profit individual or organization that has made a difference within their local Soil and Water Conservation District. Scottsburg FFA was nominated for this award by the Scott County Soil and Water District for their efforts in working beside them to serve our community.

The Scott County Soil and Water felt that Scottsburg FFA deserved to be nominated, due to the contributions made to their program. Scottsburg FFA works with the SWCD to distribute saplings to fourth grade students throughout SCSD2, represents Scottsburg FFA at every local SWCD meeting, aid at workshops when needed, serve food at the Annual SWCD Meeting, and allows the SWCD to set up a booth at the Annual Ag Day Breakfast.

It is through these contributions to the Scott County SWCD that the Scottsburg FFA was awarded the IASWCD Friend of Conservation Award.

2018 Homecoming Queen Named

SHS Senior Jesse Mays was named the 2018 Homecoming Queen at last week's Boys basketball homecoming game vs Madison. Jesse and her court were honored between the JV and Varsity games.

The Queen and her court then presided over the annual homecoming dance after the game. The dance was held in the old WHEMS cafeteria. This facility has been improved over the summer. The students and staff liked that the dance was so convenient for them to attend.

Pictures from the dance are included below.

SchoolMessenger Text System to Launch

SCSD2 is going to offer parents, guardians, students, and all family members that are listed in Harmony the option to receive district-wide safety alerts by text. This will include notice of schedule changes and/or school cancellations due to weather or other emergencies.

The district will blast an opt-in text message to all phone numbers currently listed in Harmony (phone, work, emergency contacts, etc.) on Wednesday, Jan. 10th at 6:00 PM. Watch for that text on Wednesday and respond YES if you want your number added to the text system. You may want to notify your emergency contact friends/family about this upcoming text so they are prepared when they receive their opt-in messages!

Any person not currently listed in Harmony (babysitters, etc.) can also sign up for the text system by following the directions below. For more information, check out the image below.
