Awards Assembly
Leadership team met with Bette, and we discussed the idea of changing our awards assemblies. Parents have requested that we make them shorter, and research shows that extrinsic awards do little to motivate students. What does motivate students is connecting with others, making goals and celebrating achievements. Our assemblies, as they are, do accomplish some of those things, but not all. So, we'd like to try something new at our next assembly. Here's the idea:
1)Each class will prepare a Google slide deck, one slide per student. The deck will include the students name, and the achievement he or she is most proud of. The student could decorate the slide with clip art and photographs. We will have each class stand up front and play the slide show to music. Each class could pick out their song (if this is desired).
2) We will also give out class awards to the class with:
- Best attendance
- Most AR books read
- Most respectful behavior (or Class with class) for the class who behaves the best at assemblies and in common areas
3)Leadership is mixed on whether or not we should continue to announce the AR clubs and perfect attendance
4)Also mixed on whether we give out honor roll awards or not. It seems like this may be the most difficult thing to give up
