These six students have met the rigorous criteria required by NYS, which includes completion of coursework, high performance on examinations, and an interview conducted in two languages before a faculty panel. The Seal of Biliteracy was established to recognize students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages, in addition to English. FLHS AP Art Student, Natalie Colao, Honored
One of our senior AP Studio Art 2-D Design students, Natalie Colao, has received a rare and exceptional honor! Her work has been selected as one of roughly 30 pieces for inclusion in the 2017-2018 AP Studio Art Exhibit out of @ 48,000 portfolios submitted by students around the world. This exhibit honors and celebrates the work of outstanding AP Studio Art students. In addition to her work being included in a travelling exhibit to multiple cities and feautured at the AP National Conference, Natalie's work and statement will appear on the AP website as an exemplar to inspire the next generation of AP students.
The AP Studio Art course is extremely rigorous, requiring students to create and submit 24 works of art in two main sections: Breadth (where work should show a variety of approaches and methods through 12 works), and Concentration (where students work in a series unifed by concept, content, style, and show growth through 12 works). The portfolios are scored on a rubric by a team of judges, where they are measured for creativity, risk-taking, craftsmanship & skill, composition/design, and concept. It takes students 13 years to complete the AP Studio Art portfolio sucessfully, as they learn and grow through our Visual Arts program.
This exhibit showcases outstanding artwork created by students who submitted portfolios for the AP Studio Art Exam in May 2016. Each work exemplifies the extremely high level of rigor, commitment, and accomplishment that AP Studio Art students can achieve.
AP Studio Art students work with diverse ideas, materials, and processes to create art. You can see Natalie's Concentration work and statement here:
http://nataliecolao.weebly.com/concentration.html
Natalie's work is also being featured as one of 34 pieces in the juried iCreate exhibit at the Bruce Museum which opens next Thursday evening. Please see the attached invitation.
Congratulations to Natalie on her many achievements!
