Leadership Message
"Do small things with great love". -Saint Theresa of Calcutta
Yesterday, we celebrated our amazing Saint John XXIII volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast and Concert. For those who were not able to be there, know we held you close in our appreciative hearts! We are so blessed to have such amazing parents, grandparents, families, and friends who help support our SJ village! What a difference it makes when we each take the hand of a child and work together to help them be all they are called to be.
Many thanks to our Volunteer Appreciation Team: Ms. Bourassa, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Colgan, and Miss Wilson for their awesome planning! Shout out to Mrs. Schaub and her choirs for the wonderful performances!
It takes a village! Grateful for ours!
Blessings,
Mrs. Boehm

Our Young Citizens & Earth Day/Week
Our Young Citizens Leadership Squad led our SJ village this week in conservation efforts to help our Earth! They kicked off Earth week at Assembly with a story and our weekly challenges: school yard clean-up, litterless lunches, and One Hour-No Power!
Our Saint John XXIII kids make a difference every day!
Catholic Education Week: May 5-May 10: We want to hear from you!
We will be celebrating the gift of Catholic education the week of May 5-8 and really want to hear from our students, staff, parents, and parish! Each day of the week we will highlight and share a different group: May 6-students, May 7-staff, May 8-Parents, May 9-Wear blue, and May 10-Community.
Parents and Grandparents, we would love for you to submit your response to the question-Why do you value or believe in Catholic Education? Please email your response to Mrs. Boehm bonnie-lynneb@eics.ab.ca by Friday, May 3.

Small changes, BIG Impact! A Saint John XXIII Good News Story!
Within weeks we noticed an unexpected gain--our school yard was noticeably cleaner! In fact, when the City of Fort Saskatchewan sent an email this Spring to ask all Principals to remind students to not litter as the Parks crew noticed a huge amount of litter in school yards after snow melt, Mrs. Boehm was curious and followed up with an inquiry call to see how SJXXIII playground was. Jean Dabels, Manager of Parks-Services, responded that the crew had shared that Saint John XXIII had the cleanest school yard they had seen in over ten years! Way to go! When our Young Citizens led Earth Week clean up on Tuesday, students has to search far and wide to find litter!

Social Justice Fundraiser: Valeda House & Chalice Foster Children: By Kids 4 Kids
Saint John XXIII sponsors two foster children; Veanice B. Anggaman from the Philippines, and Yalesca Luanna Fernandez Mayta from Peru. Our commitment for these two children is $800 per year.
Our Grade 4 Leadership teams will take the lead on our fundraiser, “By Kids 4 Kids - Buy, Sell and Give Extravaganza” whereby we will combine social justice, service, conservation, and building student leadership capacity. All students will be invited, starting Monday at assembly, to donate any gently used toys, books, or children's clothing. On Thursday, May 16 we will host our Buy, Sell, Give Extravaganza where all students will have an opportunity to attend the sale in our gym and purchase any of the items. (All with parental permission, of course). All proceeds will go to our Valeda House goal, our two foster children, and any remaining funds will go to supporting our students at Saint John XXIII.
