We're excited to welcome our newest, littlest Chiefs to Torrence on Tuesday, September 7th for their 1st day of school!

Torrence Pre-K Secretary & Phone #

As many of you know, Torrence Pre-K now has their very own secretary, Linda Marsden. Mrs. Marsden was hired part-time to assist with daily tasks, parent communication, and student attendance. Mrs. Marsden's hours are 8:05-1:35 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Also, Torrence Pre-K now has a direct phone line. Parents may call Torrence Pre-K at (319)526-3665 as needed.

Pre-K Transportation

Keokuk CSD is now offering morning, midday, and afternoon transportation to all Pre-K students! Any interested Pre-K parents MUST contact the bus garage at (319)524-3690 before students can begin riding the bus. Bussing for Pre-K students will begin Monday, September 13th.

Kindergarten Parent Meeting - 9/7

Our Kindergarten teachers have concluded their two week soft start with students. Students were assigned to teachers for the remainder of the year. Tuesday, September 7th there will be NO SCHOOL for kindergarten students. This will be an opportunity for parents to meet their student's teacher, drop off school supplies, and ask any questions they may have. It is very important that all parents attend this first meeting with your child's teacher. No appointments needed. Parents may drop in for meetings with their teacher at:

  • 8:00
  • 10:00
  • 12:00
  • 2:00

GO Bond Community Presentation - 9/8

There will be a presentation on Wednesday, September 8th at 5:30 in the Keokuk High School library. Any and all community members are welcome to attend to see what is being proposed. For more information about the GO Bond, visit http://keokukgobond.simplesite.com/449266559

PTO Meeting - 9/14

The Little Chiefs PTO meeting is on Tuesday, September 14th at 6:30pm. The PTO meeting will be hosted virtually via Zoom and in person in the Hawthorne gym. The Zoom link will be posted on the Little Chiefs PTO facebook page. This meeting is open to any Hawthorne or Torrence parents and staff who are interested in attending. We hope to see you there!

KCSD School Board Meeting - 9/20

September Birthday Lunch & Bookstore - 9/24

Our PTO will be delivering cupcakes for all of our students with September birthdays on Friday, September 24th. The cupcakes will be handed out at lunch. PTO will also have books for purchase.

September Virtual Awards assembly - 9/30

On September 30th, we will be hosting a virtual student assembly. The assembly will be streamed to classrooms so we can still celebrate our Little Chiefs while keeping staff and students safe. Students will be recognize for being bucket fillers and for displaying our character word of the month: Perseverance. The assembly will be posted on our Facebook pages after they are finished.

Student Registration

Online registration is open at bit.ly/3kJLZrr

If you have questions regarding Bus Transportation, you will want to schedule your appointment at Hawthorne Elementary.

  • Students will not be allowed to ride the bus until a completed transportation request is made during registration and someone from the bus garage contacts you.

Arrival Times & Breakfast

Hawthorne will open it's doors for breakfast starting at 7:40. Only students getting breakfast may enter at this time. Breakfast will be eaten in the cafeteria. All other students may arrive at 7:45 for morning recess.

Torrence students may arrive at 7:45 for AM classes and 11:45 for PM classes. Breakfast is not served at Torrence.

ALL students will be marked tardy at 8:05. Pre-K students in PM classes are marked tardy at 12:05.

We will be staggering our dismissal so we are not releasing all of our students into the hallways at the same time. Our staggered dismissal will go as follows:

  • Kindergarten - 2:50 (12:20 on Wednesdays)
  • 1st grade - 2:55 (12:25 on Wednesdays)
  • 2nd Grade/3rd Grade - 3:00 (12:30 on Wednesdays)

Parent Walk-Up - Students will be held inside the school until their parent arrives to the side yard, then they will be released to dismiss.

Parent Drive-Up - We have designated our pick-up lanes to specific grade levels:

  • Kindergarten - Lane furthest from the sidewalk
  • 1st Grade - Middle lane
  • 2nd Grade/3rd Grade - Lane closest to the sidewalk.
Having these lanes assigned will allow for a free flow of traffic. For parents with students in multiple grades, they will wait in the lane of their oldest student (i.e. parent of a K and 2nd grade student would wait in the 2nd grade lane). This will prevent traffic from backing up as parents wait for older students to dismiss.

Box Tops For Education

Have you heard?! Box Tops For Education is going digital! No more clipping, no more sending your student to school with a baggie full of box tops. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label. If you see the label, use the new Box Tops For Education app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for our school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online. You can download the app today!!

Casey's Cash for Classrooms

Dear Parents,

We’re excited to share that our school is participating in Cash for Classrooms, part of Casey’s Rewards. This opens up Hawthorne Elementary to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.

The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you buy from Casey’s and use their rewards program you can simply turn your points into a donation to our school. Help Hawthorne Elementary make the most of this program and learn more at Caseys.com/schools.
