February 2020 Newsletter
Anderson Elementary
Greetings Anderson Families!
We have surpassed the 100 day mark and I continue to be thankful for our Sarah J. Anderson family. Over the past 100 days your students have grown academically and socially. It is always so rewarding to look back to see all of their progress. We have many fun evening events coming up this spring that we would love for everyone to attend!
- Books Before Bedtime – A night of literacy, crafts and book fair fun!
- STEAM Night – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math! We will have many fun stations set up that will activate creative minds and scientific thinking!
- El Dia de los Ninos – A night of celebrating our students and Hispanic culture! Food, fun, crafts and music on Friday, May 1st!
We hope to see you all there!

Student Pick Up From School
- During school hours: Only parents and legal guardians are allowed to take students out of instruction time between 8:30 am – 2:50 pm or visit during lunch. If you need someone else to pick up your student during school, we must have written document in writing or email to the office, Anderson@vansd.org. We will check ID so please have that person bring a photo ID.
- Emergency Contact List: This list is for the school to use if we are unable to contact a parent or guardian about a student. We will not release your child to anyone on that list without written consent from you first (a note or email to Anderson@vansd.org). We only use those individuals if we have to contact them directly in absence of a parent/guardian or are unable to reach a parent/guardian.
- After School is Out: Please use the Parent Pick Up student signs for your children. If someone other than a parent or guardian is picking up your child, please give them the sign and our staff will know you have given permission for them to take your child home after school.
- Change in Pick Up: If you normally pick up your child after school and have a change in the Go Home Plan, please either write a note to the office or email Anderson@vansd.org by 1:00 pm on Mondays and 2:00 pm Tuesday – Friday. You can also copy the teacher on the email, but the office must be informed of all Go Home Changes!
Teacher - Home Communication
Communication between home and school is vital. Please consider the suggestions below when you need to speak with your child's teacher.
- Email, Class Dojo, Remind Apps- teachers respond pretty quickly to electronic communications.
- Schedule a time with the teacher to meet outside of class time to discuss concerns or celebrations.
- Phone calls - teachers can respond to phone messages during non-student attendance times.
Please remember - if there are students in the teacher's classroom, they need to be able to focus on the students. Teachers often use before school times to prepare for the day.
1st Grade Family Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast
First grade families, we want to invite you to a special green eggs and ham breakfast to celebrate Read Across America Week. Beaches Restaurant has provided this breakfast to first grade students and their families for 25 years. If you are unable to attend with your child, please feel free to send another special adult in your place. Our breakfast takes place Monday, March 2nd at 8:30 am.
Dual Language for Incoming Kindergarteners
If you are interested in enrolling your incoming kindergarten student in the Dual Language program at Sarah J Anderson for the 2020-2021 school year, you must attend one of the following meetings. Sign in sheets will be used to verify attendance and it does not matter which meeting you attend as the lottery and selection will start after the April 28th meeting. You must register your incoming kindergartener at their home school regardless of your desire to attend Anderson’s Dual Language program.
