GCIS Friday Focus

Be the Key to Our Success!

Lunch Dates w/ Van Cleave

I have included a link to the Lunch w/ Van Cleave on the Stage. This can be a sign up in your homeroom or a lottery! Either way, I'm hoping to meet every Wednesday with students and give each Homeroom throughout the year to have lunch with me. I have included the dates and the homerooms for September! Looking forward to spending time with students talking about life, books, school, and anything else our crazy cool GCIS students want to talk about! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Genius Hour Links & Timeline

We met this Wednesday and generated ideas about structure, questions we had, and also ideas! What a great collaborative effort at creating a great time for students! Last night I participated in the genius hour chat (#geniushour) that happens the first Thursday of every month at 8:00pm.

During the chat many resources where shared that I was able to gather from experts in the genius hour world. I have included a few for you to browse this week as we use this next week to get our first groups and projects off the ground and running!

My goal is to have our Success Groups and Genius Hour Projects up and running by Monday September 14th. This will take a little classroom/homeroom support from teachers. I plan on talking to grade level teams next week. If you are needing me for anything else or just to think out loud please let me know and I will squeeze in time this next week!

One aspect to Wednesdays PD is project based learning. We did some thinking about this at the end of the year. We will revisit that to start with and also view the video link below. Please feel free to view this video sometime before Wednesday.

If it doesn't work for you to squeeze that in, that is okay too. I wanted to provide the link and "flip PD" for those of you that like to process and think deeper prior to Wednesday PD session. Just like "flipping" classroom instruction like some of you indicated was something you want to try as something new this year, here is a great way to do that with video.
