October Senior Newsletter
Class of 2019
Dear Seniors,
You will receive monthly newsletters that will contain scholarship opportunities in the upcoming months. Please also check your email regularly for college lunch & learn visits as well as scholarship opportunities.
Counselors will be meeting with you individually to go over your transcript, graduation requirements, to sign off on the spelling of your diploma, and to discuss college and career plans.
Current Scholarship Opportunities
The Horatio Alger Scholarship High School Senior:
Qualifications:
Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2019 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)
Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)
Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
Be a United States citizen
Deadline October 25th, 2018
2. WACE Co-op Scholarship
Qualifications:
Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale
Apply for admission for the 2019-2020 academic year at institution(s) you select on the scholarship application
Meet other merit scholarship criteria as established by the institution(s) selected on the application
Deadline February 15, 2019
3. FREE SPEECH essay Contest :
Qualifications:
Open to seniors in U.S. high schools. Students must submit an essay between 800 and 1,000 words on the provided topic below.
Additional questions regarding eligibility may be emailed to essaycontest@thefire.org.
Deadline: December 31, 2018.
Qualifications:
- Be a current high school senior in Ohio attending a public, charter or alternative high school.
- Be on track to graduate by June 2019.
- Have overcome significant adversity such as, but not limited to, poverty, disability, homelessness or abuse.
- Demonstrate academic achievement as well as participation in school activities, community organizations, employment and/or community service.
- Have a current G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.Plan to attend college, university, or vocational school in the fall of 2019.
- Deadline: December 8th, 2018
5. ACT Student Champion Scholarship
