What a fabulous first semester we've had at CRES! We've tried some new things, and we've enjoyed some of our tried and true traditions. Thank you to all of the CRES families who came to Grillin' & Chillin' in September, supported Roadrunner Rally in October, and contributed to the various teacher appreciation efforts throughout the semester. Attendance at our open forum meetings have been terrific. The kids love seeing Riley the Roadrunner making his way around the school. And we couldn't be more excited about the construction progress! It has been a highlight of our meetings to be able to tour the new wing, and we look forward to seeing the next phase complete when we gather for our next meeting on Tuesday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m. In addition to a tour of the completed phase two, we'll be soliciting feedback about the winter parties, provide an update on CRES Fest plans, and of course, spend time hearing your "Voice It" thoughts, questions, and suggestions.

Hour of Code

During the month of December Mrs. Foust and Mrs. Hicks have been working with all students on learning some basic computer programming skills. Each year millions of students throughout the whole world participate in an Hour of Code during the first week in December. We decided to make a month of it at CRES. During their first 2 rotations, students in grades 2-4 worked on coding tutorials on the Code.org website. K-1 students worked in the app, Kodable. During the last 1/2 of the month K-1 students used our Osmos to play a coding game, 2nd grade learned coding with our Ozobots, 3rd and some 4th grade classes experimented with our new Cubelets, and 4th grade worked on coding with our Spheros. Click the link below to learn more about Hour of Code or to work through some of the coding tutorials on the Code.org website.

This week, teachers unwrapped packages of brand new books to add to their classroom libraries! Teachers were all smiles, but mostly they are excited to see their students' excitement. Doesn't everyone just love a new book? Keep reading!!!
