This and That
Addressing Concerns
Have a problem with a student, staff member, or routine/procedure at school? Use one of these ideas to solve the problem.
- Talk to the person (student or staff member) directly about the concern.
- Bring your concern to your Leadership Team member to present at our next meeting
- Schedule time to talk to Elizabeth about your concern.
When we know better, we do better!
Guided Reading
3 groups a day, every day! Look at your schedule to ensure you are meeting with groups as regularly as possible.
If a group gets services with Lisa Propst, they should be seen daily.
Other groups should be seen 2-3 times a week.
Need help with scheduling groups? Ask Nikki, Lisa, or myself! We are happy to help!
Observations
Observations continue in all areas! Math walk-throughs (first round) are almost complete. I will continue to get into classrooms to see math, reading, morning meeting, and any other subject I can as often as I can. Feedback on teaching is continual. There is no "magic" number of observations to be finished for a school year.
Book Room Reminders
I have been asked by several teachers to send a reminder about some general Book Room Care practices. Please remember:
- The red tubs are for books. They are separated by fiction and non-fiction and levels.
- The purple tubs are for Short Reads. They are separated by level.
- Please make sure that you are replacing the correct texts in the correct tubs.
- Please make sure that you replace the cards back in the pockets before reshelving them. Several of them are reshelved without cards.
- Do not send texts home with students. A lot of money has been invested in high interest, engaging texts for kids and we already have sets with missing books.
- Please make sure that you have all the texts in the bag before you return them to the book room.
- Please reshelve your own books. Do not leave piles of books for someone else to take care of.
Thank you for chipping in and working together to take care of our resources!
iReady Licenses
Now that iReady diagnostics are complete, make sure your students who have an iReady license are using it! 45 minutes a week is the goal! We have some additional licenses remaining. If you want one assigned, you must make sure your students are going to use it!
SMART Board Filters
Clean at least once a week - FILTER FRIDAY! If you have not cleaned them yet - do so! If you don't know how - ask Jen Bearden for help!
Grades in Infinite Campus
Put in grades twice a month (approximately the 15th and 30th).
Birthday and Lounge Duty
School Success Squad assigned birthday treats and lounge duty for the year. If your grade level or team is on the duty for the month, please also have your students make some art work or cards for our business partners (Scholastic, Missouri River Regional Library, and Oasis United Church of Christ). The schedule is included below.
Staff Appreciation Banquet
Staff Appreciation Banquet
JC Schools invites you to the Staff Appreciation Banquet on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Jefferson City High School. The Retiring Staff Reception will begin at 5:00 p.m. The Dinner Banquet will immediately follow at 5:30 p.m.
REMEMBER - The banquet is an all staff event where we will be recognizing years of service recipients and retiring staff members from all categories of staff in the district - both educators, as well as support staff. That means any staff member who wishes to attend may do so free of charge!
March Team Updates
We did not meet yet.
Instructional rounds with Nikki will continue.
School Success Squad:
Literacy Night is planned for and ready!
March Lesson Planning - March Madness Brackets will come out March 16. Prizes for top bracket winners!
April - Barvino - See Missy Simpson for more information!
Mary - Bonfire (?) TBD
June/July - Swimming Gathering (TBD)
Title 1 planning for next year will be the focus for the next meeting.
Social Emotional Learning Team:
Looked at our data through February for both majors and minors. Physical aggression is on the rise. KAHFOOTY would be a good topic to address at morning meeting over the next week or two.
District is looking at overall implementation of Tier 1 practices. A link will be coming out on Monday (March 9) for the School Assessment Survey. This survey looks at Tier 1 practices school-wide and in non-classroom areas. There will be a guide to help assist you in taking this survey. We can use this data to address any concerns in Belair's Tier 1 implementation. The district is using this data for all buildings to see where the district is for Tier 1 strategies.
Help for Billy
Read Chapters 9 and 10 in Help for Billy.
Be ready to discuss some questions with a small group of staff members.
Questions we will use to discuss:
