Our Classroom This Month

December, 2015

Our Math focus this month

MAth: Comparing Lengths and Heights

Our focus this month will be enhancing our comparing skills. We will be comparing our own heights, lengths of various writing utensils, as well as heights of blocks and different objects. You can enhance their learning a number of ways, such as asking who is taller at home, which sock is longer, or which appliance is taller.

How many apples high?

We will also be using an Apple Height Chart to compare our heights to each other to see who is the tallest classmate or the shortest classmate.

Our Literary Focus this Month

Reading: sight word recognition

For reading, we will be practicing our sight words as well as our fabulous words. We are also working on our Writing, and making sure that we capital the first word in the sentence, adequate spaces, as well as punctuation.

Social focuses

Sharing and "Please"

I will be focusing specifically on sharing and saying 'Please' for this month. Sharing is a good way for students to be nice and not snatch things from each other. You can help integrate these at home by having your child say "Please" when he or she wants something, and asking if they want to share a snack.

Note from Ms. Chambers:
