8th Grade Newsletter

Friendly reminder that all students will be learning remotely on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Though we will not be seeing students in person, we look forward to interacting with them during our Google Meet sessions which can be accessed through each of your child's Google Classrooms.
- A Day students should attend on Monday and B Day students should attend on Tuesday.
- Class times have been slightly altered so please look over the schedule below and have your child join each of their classes at the beginning of the hour.

SUBJECT SPECIFICS!

Science - Ms. Gunther
Throughout the week, students conducted and analyzed a variety of experiments determining whether a physical or chemical change had occurred. They were also able to witness the various signs indicating that a chemical reaction had taken place including drastic color changes, temperature changes, formation of precipitates, emission of light, and release of a gas. Some of the labs also afforded students the opportunity to observe the differences between exothermic and endothermic reactions which we will learn more about next week.

PLTW: App Creators - Mrs. Delaney
Students spent the week building a Magic 8-Ball app on virtual days and debugging another app on in-person days. It's been a busy week!
- Next, we move on to our first GAME APP. We will be building next week!

ELA - Mrs. Crowley
Students completed the Literary Elements unit this week. They will move into narrative writing and central idea after Thanksgiving break.
- Students will present their second book talk on Monday/Tuesday via Google Meet. Book Talk 3 is scheduled for December 17/18.

Physical Education - Coach Milne
We are continuing with our Fitness Testing which includes the Mile Run, and will begin our Basketball unit once all of the testing is completed.

Social Studies - Mrs. Marshall
The students have concluded the unit over Colonial America. They have taken the unit test as well. The deadline to retake the Colonial America Unit Test will be on Friday 12/4. Students can retake the assessment either in FPC or Academic Lab. Their Colonial America Unit Test Study Guide MUST be complete in order to retake the test. The student's grades reflect the study guide and test.
We are currently doing a mini-unit over the Roots of American Democracy. We are learning more about the Magna Carta, the Enlightenment, English Parliament and much more. Students have also had an opportunity to learn more about Ben Franklin and the first Thanksgiving. Our next unit will cover the French & Indian War.

Art - Mr. Elliott
Mosaic tiles have been fired and are ready to be hung within the Barry hallways as part of a future decorative installation. Also, art students have been busy adding finishing touches to their paper mache masks.

Math - Mr. Cerutti, Ms. Klingele, Mrs. Morelock
8th grade math students are in the midst of learning about algebraic expressions and equations.

Algebra - Mr. Cerutti
Algebra students tested over linear equations and will move on to functions next.

Geometry - Mr. Cerutti
Geometry students have begun learning about transformations. They will learn how to use rigid motions in a coordinate plane within our upcoming classes.
