Behavioral Adaptations

Hibernation

Hibernation

The behavioral adaptation I chose is hibernation. Hibernation is a state of inactivity and metabolic depression in endotherms. It helps organisms survive because during the winter there is a low supply of food, and hibernation uses less energy. Hibernation makes the animals sleep during winter, if they didn't sleep they would probably die off because lack of food.

Estivation

Estivation is also known as "summer sleep". Estivation is similar to hibernation, but instead of taking place during winter it takes place when its hot a dry. Estivation manly happens during the summer. Estivation is a state of reduced metabolism that occurs in animals living in conditions of intense heat.
