PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Parents,
This fall I had the pleasure of watching our fourth grade and fifth grade students prepare for "Student Led Conferences". After experiencing this activity, I encouraged a student to write about her experiences so everyone can learn more about a student led conference.
For the first time, this section of the school newsletter will have a guest student writer! Below are Stella's thoughts about the student led conference. Enjoy!
This year Roosevelt School started something called a “student led conference”. This is where the students lead the parent teacher conference. The students make a presentation on their strengths and weaknesses. In the student led conference the students share their presentation with the teacher and their parents. Then the teacher will create a plan to help the student reach their goals. I think student led conference is a great experience for kids to not be shy.
When I walked into the conference I was very scared. I didn't like talking to teachers when it was just me and them. My teacher had an outline of what I needed to do at certain times. I was nervous to say my strengths and weaknesses because I was afraid of what my parents would think. Yet, it turned out fine. I had put something about not having a good attitude about school but my teacher said she thinks I do. I felt happy when she said that. I had no bad things on my presentation. Everything went great.
This experience has helped me be more confident. It helps students express themselves and show their progress. I think Roosevelt has made a great decision to start this program. I look forward to doing this again in the fall as a fifth grader.
May you enjoy the holiday season with family and friends.
Happy Holidays!
