Students Teachers Learning From the Best
This semester Beech Grove High School is hosting four student teachers in our building as they prepare for their career as educators.
Guidance counselor Karen Matthews is working with Cody Johnson in our Guidance Department. Cody is a graduate of Franklin Community High School and Wabash College. He is currently working as an admission counselor at Butler University, working towards Master's degree in School Counseling. He and his wife, Steff, are expecting a daughter in early April. Cody enjoys working out, spending time with my friends, family, and dogs, reading, playing video games, and watching sports.
Mr. Bradford is hosting student teacher Daniel Scott Watson in the Music Department. Daniel is a Senior Choral Music Education major at the University of Indianapolis and he is currently completing his Student Teaching and studying piano with Dr. Richard Ratliff. As a an active performer, Watson also accompanies and teaches at schools and communities throughout central Indianapolis. Watson’s passion for music education stems from an enthusiasm for music making, an eagerness for personal development, and the desire to inspire. His performance of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 3 earned him the 2014 Madge Cathcart Gerke Music Performance Award. As an avid composer, he has worked with William Bolcom, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, and StaceyGarrop, in composition lessons and masterclasses. Watson was recently recognized at the state level with the Indiana Music Educator's Association Outstanding Future Music Educator Award of 2015.
Mr. Kaufman is hosting student teacher Samantha Paschal in the Agri-Science Department. Samantha is a graduate of Huntington North High School and is currently attending Purdue University, where she is majoring in Agricultural Education.
Our final student teacher is Beech Grove Alum ('11) Katie Wolfe. Katie is working with Julie Bryant in our Language Arts Department. Katie is currently attending the University of Indianapolis and will graduate in May with a BA in English Education, with a minor in Reading and Literary Studies.
Welcome to Beech Grove. You are good hands with your Beech Grove Mentor.

BGHS Athletics Will Hold Fundraiser For the Kurt Aping Family
Athletic Director Matt English has announced that the Athletic Department will hold a fundriaser for the the Kurt Aping Family. As many of you probably know Kurt:...he is a Beech Grove graduate and since his graduation he has been actively involved in many aspects of Beech Grove athletics. He has served on the youth baseball and basketball boards of directors, while also serving as coach, umpire, and filling numerous other roles within the youth programs. In addition, Kurt has coached numerous travel teams in both basketball and baseball. Kurt has two sons actively involved in athletics in Beech Grove City Schools; son Kyle is an athlete at BGMS while older son, sophomore Kole, is involved in both basketball and baseball here at BGHS.
Unfortunately, last year Kurt was diagnosed with cancer. Due to his sickness he has been unable to work for many months, while undergoing a rigorous treatment regimen. We will be selling drinks, snacks and other items in the lobby tomorrow evening to help the Aping family as they work through this process.
On Sunday March 22nd we will be holding a larger, more extensive fundraiser for the family; as details for that event become clear we will make you aware.

Senior Parents: A Note From Guidance Counselor Karen Matthews
Dear Parents/Guardians of Seniors,
A few items concerning seniors as their last semester of high school speeds by:
1. Indiana’s deadline for submitting the FAFSA is March 10th. Be sure to file this form if your student is considering attending college during the 2015-2016 school year. The FAFSA is the major form used to apply for financial aid and should be filed at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
2. Seniors’ Jostens orders will be available for pickup on Tuesday, March 3rd during lunch periods. Seniors received their Jostens statements from me yesterday or today and should bring their remaining balance in the form of cash, check, or money order on 3/3. Seniors will be given all of the items they ordered except for caps and gowns, which will be distributed May 15th.
3. There are many local scholarships that only BGHS seniors are eligible to apply for. A flyer detailing the scholarships available was given to seniors yesterday or today in English class and is attached to this message. If your student is planning to attend college in the fall, please encourage him or her to apply for any local scholarships for which he or she might be qualified. The odds of being awarded one of these scholarships are better than with other scholarships, because only BGHS seniors can apply for these. Applications for local scholarships must be returned to the Guidance Office by Wednesday, March 18th.
Have a great day and stay warm!
