Superhero and Villain Backstories By: Zachary Howes
These are many superhero and villain backstories and the ones that
I share today are the comic accurate versions. I chose to use their comic backstories because they are the original versions and may be different from the ones in movies today.
Batman: Bruce Wayne was a young boy whose family parents were killed by Joe Chill who was a petty thief and while mugging them shot them. After this young Bruce vowed to have revenge and purge gotham of crime creating batman.
The Joker: His backstory is inconsistent and changes through time but most of the time it is that he was a failed comedian who resorted to crime and then while wearing the costume of the red hood he robbed a chemical plant then fell into a vat a chemicals. After batman chased him there batman assumed he had died from the fall but he didn’t and emerged insane with no memory but obsessed with batman.
Superman: Kal-El of Krypton was born on the planet Krypton. His father was a scientist there and he knew that the world was about to be destroyed so he sent his son to a faraway planet called Earth where he was raised by the Kent family who named him Clark Kent and the earth's atmosphere gave him superpowers.
Lex Luthor: He was obsessed with superman as a tenager but after becoming a successful scientist he decided to try to defeat superman.
Wolverine: James Howlett was a sickly child born in the 1800’s who eventually discovered he had claws and after a robbery at his house he then runs away and his healing factor puts up a mental block. Later he agrees to have his bones and claws coated in the indestructible metal Adamantium and soon after joins the X-men.
Magneto: As a child he was sent to a natzi concentration camp where he discovered his powers and escaped where he then met professor X and later left him to try to take over the world and have all mutants lead it.

Top Three Book Series By: Dia Ganguli
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divergent_trilogy
There are more than 130 million books with varying genres. Today, I will be narrowing down my top three series choices (not that I have read all 130 million books) in no certain order.
1. The Hunger games series (3); The Hunger games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay
I’m sure most of you have read and seen the thrilling series by Suzanne Collins. The book is a novel falling into the Dystopian genre. It takes place in Panem, the country created after the governments of North America collapsed (and the arena of course) moving around places a little in each book. A quick summary is Katniss (the main character played by Jennifer Lawrence) must endure numerous deadly ordeals, navigate complex personal relationships, and learn to control how others perceive her in order to survive the Hunger Games.
2. The Mickey Bolitar series (3); Shelter, Seconds Away, Found. This is a thrilling mystery series by Harlan Coben. In the first book, Shelter, we meet Mickey, a high school sophomore and new kid in town. He is grieving over his father’s death, his mother’s long-term stay in drug rehab, and the fact that his parents never stayed in one place long enough for him to feel like it was home. Mickey lives with his dad’s brother, Myron Bolitar, even though the brothers were estranged years ago. And if all of that isn’t enough of a challenge, Mickey must
(Cont. on p. 3)
hunt for the truth behind his parent’s mysterious past. The other two books follow up the main plot with even more twists, turns, and scares.
3. The Divergent series (3): Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant. A quick summary: The society of the trilogy defines its’ citizens by their social and personality-related affiliation with five different factions. This removes the threat of anyone exercising independent will and threatening the population's safety. Beatrice Prior, who later changes her name to Tris, an Abnegation-born and Dauntless transfer, must figure out her life as a Divergent. She must do this while concealing her true nature, and living with the danger of being killed, if it is discovered by the Erudite and Dauntless leaders.

Northville’s History (This isn’t some sad history lesson) by: Ellie Lin and Jennie Wei
Have you ever wondered about how Northville became well, Northville? It doesn’t matter if your answer was a yes or a no. We’re going to tell you about Northville and it’s history, whether you like it or not (you could flip the page...).
Northville is a very historic city, if you haven’t already figured that out. Some of Northville’s streets were named after the first settlers’ last names. John Miller built the first mill, and many more buildings began to appear as Northville grew. The first school opened in 1853, and a tailor, a bar, a shoe shop, and two blacksmiths were set up in town. Later, Henry Ford bought a factory in Northville. So many more things happened and it’s hard to keep track of it all. Northville has changed a lot since then, huh?
You may also be wondering how Northville got it’s name. That’s okay if you weren’t, but that’s what we’re going to talk about next. So if you did wonder, lucky you (which is probably like, no one). Anyways, historic Northville was pretty much a village. You can shorten ‘village’ into ‘ville,’ which is where the ‘ville’ part of Northville came in. A teensy bit off topic, but Plymouth was like the popular town, so Northville got the ‘north’ part because it was north of Plymouth. Fancy naming system, right? Then, we can put all that together, and end up with Northville.
Northville is a very special city. Many famous people have lived in Northville. Like Nick Lidstrom, who was once defense for the Detroit Red Wings, lived in Northville during the hockey cousin, Nick Lidstrom lived in Northville! I bet he never lived in yer city!”).season. Many famous baseball players and football players lived in Northville, also. Isn’t that cool? Famous people have lived right here, in Northville! Next time you see your cousin from out of town, you can brag (“Hey
That concludes our Northville speech. Admit it, Northville isn’t as boring as a history class, right?
Fifa World Cup 2017 By: Saaketh Boddapati
For all the soccer fans, the Fifa World Cup will be starting in another few months! The Fifa World Cup is every four years, and the last one was in 2014 when Germany beat Argentina 1-0. In the next world cup, which will be held in Russia, talented teams will go head-to-head for the opportunity to take home the trophy. The teams or the schedule were not announced yet, but most likely it will be the same teams playing.
Some top teams Brazil is also a great team and also came all the way to the semifinals but that's when they lost against Germany 7-1.There lead offense who is Thomas Muller is really a big impact on the team. The goalie who earned many awards (golden gloves) is an outstanding player who can pretty much block any type of ball coming at him. 2015 world cup final was a surprising moment because Mario Gotze (German player) scored in the last seven minutes of overtime. That was a surprising moment for the Argentinian players and fans. 2014 world cup was held in Brazil. Many people are excited about the next world cup in 2018. Every match is important and one match can make a difference in the whole tournament. All teams are good enough compete. A small team can also win against a really good team. Let's hope USA also does good in this tournament.
EASTER BUNNY - THE STORY By: Anbu Vijayavarshini
Have you ever wondered how the Easter Bunny came around? Well, I did too, and I decided to research and let you know (this is totally not made up)!
So, here’s how it happened: One day, a bunny was hopping in the forest when it saw a piece of candy. Now, the bunny had never seen candy before, so it was curious on what this strange object was. So, he tried to eat it, and it loved it (this bunny is so smart that it knew it had to remove the wrapper).
Just then, the bunny heard a rustling noise, so the bunny hid in a bush. Two kids came through the bushes, and one of the boys said, “I must have dropped that candy piece somewhere!” The second one said, “Let’s look somewhere else.” Now, the bunny knew that the mystery object was called candy (Yes. This bunny is so smart that it can understand English).
As the two boys left, the bunny had decided it would have more, and it hatched it’s evil plan to get more (it’s a special breed called the EVIL genius bunny). The bunny's plan was to sneak in at night and steal the candy and if it was ever caught, it would act cute and make their heart dissolve with love then run away with them still dissolving with love. This plan worked for months until the BPFS (Bunny Police Force Squad) got suspicious that one of the bunnies in their forest was stealing candy when they heard about candy disappearance and how bunnies were the “cutest”. They started looking at suspects and they could only come up with one, the EVIL genius bunny. The BPFS caught the EVIL genius bunny red-pawed. The EVIl genius bunny was taken to bunny court for punishment and it’s punishment was decided to be THE EASTER BUNNY which will give everybody free candy on one special day for a 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0000 years and that is how the Easter Bunny came to be. (Again, this story is true and not a total lie)! : )
Life Hacks by: Alexander Milojevic
We are all looking for ways to make life easier, whether it would be staying organized, or to save money. Sometimes these are called Life Hacks, if you didn’t already know. Here are 11 (sort of) spring-themed lifehacks to ease out predicaments over the spring break!
1) Tie a small piece of colored fabric to your suitcase so you don’t have to spend time figuring out if it’s yours or not.
2)Place a clean dustpan to act as a funnel to fill containers that won’t fit under the sink.
3) For quick use, tie a knot on the left wire of your earbud so that you know which one it is without looking.
4)Poke holes on the cap of a milk jug to create a DIY (do-it-yourself) watering can.
5)When picking up pizza, put on your seat warmer to keep your pizza warm on the drive home.
6)If you run out of outlets at a hotel, the TV usually has a USB port where you can use your cord without a brick to charge your phone.
7)To make your own tropical fruit punch, put pomegranate seeds in a plastic bag, and snip of the bottom corner, and squeeze as hard as you can. The juice will empty into a cup, and you can mix it with other types of juicy fruits to make a blend.
8)Use a barbecue clamp to squeeze out lemon juice.
9) Use a cupcake holder at the bottom of your popsicle for a zero-mess treat.
10) To eat cupcakes like a pro, rip off the bottom of the cupcake(not the wrapper), and put it on top of all the frosting. Then eat it like a giant cake version of an oreo.
11) If you need an easy reading light, maybe in a hotel, take your phone and a gatorade bottle. Turn on the flashlight of your phone to max, and place the bottle on top.

History Of Candy By: Anbu Vijayavarshini
http://www.candyhistory.net/candy-origin/
The origin of candy can be traced to the ancient Egyptians who combining fruits and nuts with honey. Around the same time, Greeks used honey to make candied fruits and flowers. First modern candies were made in 16th century and sweet manufacturing developed rapidly into an industry during the early 19th century.
Candy also dates back to the caveman who created the idea of candy by eating honey combs and honey. Candy can be traced back as far as 1500 BC to the ancient Egyptians who used honey and made candy by adding figs, nuts, dates and spices.
Candies are sweet treats that became extremely popular ever since their first appeared on the market in the middle of 19th century.
Chocolate Bars Candy bars have been a big part of the candy revolution and here’s little bit about it’s history too! The first chocolate bar was made in 1847 by Joseph Fry in England. He discovered a way for mixing melted cacao butter, cocoa powder and sugar to create a paste that could be pressed into a mold. The resulting solid chocolate bar was later called Fry's Chocolate Cream Bar.
Other types of candy
Candy has made a great impact on our society but not just with a few types of candy here are a few important candies that have helped make candy a big part of our culture!

Cotton candy:Two men from Nashville, John C. Wharton and William Morris, patented the first modern cotton candy machine in 1897. In 1900, another American, Thomas Patton introduced a slightly different cotton candy machine.

Canada Our neighbor to the north By: Gabe McDougall
What is Canada? It is a wilderness waiting to be explored. It is the true north. It gives us a feeling you never get in a city. It’s a country that is friendly and excepting. It is a place where you can experience something other than the city. The trees are Canada's skyscrapers, the campgrounds are it’s apartments. It is also bustling economy with cities and skyscrapers.
There are many landforms in Canada. The Canadian Shield, the Rocky Mountains, and Niagara Falls. These are only a few examples of this wilderness. The canadian shield is 3,000,000 square miles long. It surrounds Hudson’s Bay and is rich in minerals. The Rocky Mountains are 415 square miles and stretches from the United States into Canada. It is a rugged terrain with many trees and wildlife. It is a U.S national park but can still be visited in Canada. Niagara Falls is 16.8 square miles long. It is split between the U.S and Canada. You can go on tours and look inside the falls.
SOME FACTS ABOUT CANADA

It is the second largest country
Canada consumes the most macaroni in the world
Canadians own the mall of america
The Canadian\American border is the longest undefended border

Thank you for reading my article on Canada! Canada is our neighbor to the north.
Locker Cleanliness Tips By: Cate Leneschmidt
Have you ever walked by a messy locker? Or are you yourself one of the many messy locker owners? I’ve seen lockers with locker shelves sitting broken at the bottom of the locker, papers lying everywhere, textbooks open with pages bent. If you are one of those people, don’t worry you're not alone. Many students have messy lockers. If you're not sure how you should start cleaning your locker, or not even sure you will clean it at all, this is the article for you.
Why You Should Clean Your Locker:
You might think that cleaning your locker is a pain, but you really need to do it. Even if you don’t care how neat your locker is, your neighbor certainly does. Your locker being a mess can cause their locker to jam, and their locker being jammed will seriously annoy them. If it happens too many times, they will be told to call the office. Also having a messy locker can cause you to lose papers, so naturally your grade will most likely drop.
Picking a Good Time:
Next, you have to pick a good time. Passing time is NOT the time because cleaning your locker (depending on how messy it is) will take
(Cont. on p. 10)
around six or seven to twenty minutes to clean. You also will have to take things out of your locker and set them on the floor. Pick a time like before or after school for example, when you know you have plenty of time and won’t feel rushed. Also try to find a time when you think there will be less people around so you have for space to work. Later when your locker is clean, you will want to pick a time once a week to tidy it up again.
Cleaning Your Locker:
Note: You will want a shelf for your locker that has at least two shelves. The following steps work best with non-hanging shelves.
Once you have a time and a shelf, follow these simple steps:
Start by emptying your locker out completely
If you have papers laying at the bottom of your locker, throw the ones you don’t need away and sort the rest into their correct folders
Install the shelf (the instructions should be included)
Put all your folders on the top shelf along with all your notebooks. If you have a binder, trapper-keeper, or case, put it up there as well
Put your textbooks on the bottom shelf
If you put your shelf up correctly, there should be a space at the bottom of your locker. Put your planner and books down there
Use the already installed top shelf for your lunch box and sometimes your gym clothes and other stuff you don’t need very often
Hang your bag and coat on the hooks
Bonus: Decorate!!!!!!
