Lakeview Elementary - We Know Every Child by Name & by Need

September 15, 2017

Lakeview Families,

Today we kicked off our Speeding to Read program. Our district is blessed to have The Texas Motor Speedway as a partner. This year it is Lakeview's turn to participate in the Speeding to Read competition. The Texas Motor Speedway sponsors the competition and our entire campus will be taking a field trip in the spring to the Speedway. Your child's teacher will be sending home more information in regards to logging books read to or by your child.

The Speeding to Read shirt your child was given will be worn again when we take our field trip to the Speedway. They are welcome to wear it anytime this year, but please make sure to hold on to it through our last Speeding to Read event in the spring.

We want to hear from you!

We are always looking for ways we can bring in relevant lessons to our students. Each month we focus on a Lakeview Learner Quality - for September we are looking at the importance of reflection. If you reflect in your everyday lives or in your careers, please click HERE and enter a description of how you reflect and why it is important. We will share your replies with our teachers so they can in turn share them with our students. Please include your name and your profession in your email. We can't wait to read them!

Many Thanks!

Compulsory Attendance

We understand students miss school for various reasons. However, please understand that if your child has missed more than 8 school days (excused or unexcused) you will receive a letter from Lakeview regarding attendance. As the state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the year, Lakeview will continue to follow state guidelines regarding this issue. If you have any questions we are happy to talk you through the process.

Absence notes are due no more than 3 days after the date of the absent. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

PTA Membership Toolkit

A huge thank you to our Lakeview PTA for all they do to support Lakeview! Remember anyone can join PTA...grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Lakeview students and staff benefit from the most AMAZING PTA. The support of our PTA provides to our Lakeview learning community with the tools and resources to help each child be successful. Thank you in advance to all of our PTA members and especially our PTA president and board members!

Arrival and Dismissal

Please be patient with Arrival and Dismissal - the first couple of weeks are always busy but our arrival and dismissal procedures work well when parents follow the guidelines provided below. The length of time it takes for arrival and dismissal will decrease as we fall into our daily routines.

Also, please be aware, there are some exceptions to the arrival and dismissal procedures for some of our students.

Ride Changes

Big image
Parents please be sure to send an email to and your child's teacher by 1:00pm to communicate ride changes. We will not release students to ride changes without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes.

Birthday Treats

Big image
We love celebrating birthdays with our students! When planning on bringing in birthday treats, only pre-packaged store bought products are allowed. To ensure there is time to distribute birthday treats to classrooms, please have them in the office no later than 2:00. We are unable to hold ice cream or popsicles so please do not send treats that will melt. Also, if a treat does not have a label of ingredients it will not be shared with the class. Due to allergies we must know the ingredients for ALL treats. Due to sensitivity no balloons are allowed in the building.

Facebook and Social Media

Social media is a great way to keep up with and in contact with friends and family. When you are posting regarding Lakeview, please keep a few things in mind:

1. Think before you post, your words have power.

2.Do not post pictures or information of children who are not yours. Privacy is important so do not post pictures or information about other students without parent permission.

3. If you have a question regarding events or information regarding Lakeview, your best bet is to always email your child's teacher or call the front office.

4. If you are unhappy with a situation or would like to share a concern, please always email your child's teacher or contact our front office.

5. Finally, stay positive. No one benefits when community members disagree on line.
