Throughout this month, your child's class will be discussing health. Specifically healthy eating choices and habits. With that, we will hold our 6th annual Health Fair on November 11th, @5:30. Each class will be coming up with a healthy snack idea, in which they will then share with everyone at the Health Fair. Recipes for the snacks will also be available.
Please come join us and enjoy some healthy snacks, Monday November 11th, @5:30.
Typing Notes
Students are developing problem-solving, collaboration, persistence and computational thinking skills while learning to code.
Keyboarding lessons include learning to use the shift key to type capital letters, typing sentences and paragraphs.
Library Loop
Mark your calendars for our Holiday Bash on December 9. More details will be coming soon. This annual event is a wonderful family holiday celebration. You will not want to miss it.
Music Notes
Thanks for all the support with the SmartArts Unit with Mr. Holland. The kids really enjoy all the percussion instruments.
It's that time of year again for the Recorders to start rocking. 4th and 5th grade will start our Holiday songs in November and then will continue with Recorder Karate in January. 3rd grade will start in January on the White Belt song Hot Cross Buns! The kids are so excited. The cost is $5.00 for each Recorder- please make check payable to Tigerville Elementary or you may send cash. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email me anytime.
The piano lab is always a fun time for the kids. If you have a student in 1st or 2nd they are learning all about the history of the keyboard as well as how to play them. Don't be surprised if they start playing you a song one day soon.
Counselor's Corner
This month our students will be learning about the Good Character word of Gratitude – being thankful and appreciative of the people and things around us. November is a great month for Gratitude, as we gather with friends and family for Thanksgiving, and bring to mind all we have to be thankful and grateful for. Students will learn about Gratitude through their classroom guidance lessons and through presentations on our morning news program.
Our Student Council and Beta Club is preparing to host a Snack Food Drive through November 15th. Please help us fill Tigerville needs by donating snack food items such as crackers, cereal bars, mac-n-cheese, spaghettios, chips and applesauce cups. Boxes are in the school lobby for your items.
The next ‘Coffee with the Counselor’ will be held on Tuesday, November 5th from 7:30 am until 8:00 am. Please join me for coffee, and to meet with our school’s Speech/Language Therapist Traci Drake, and our school’s Mental Health Therapist Kimberly Fleming. Both will be available to answer your questions about services provided here at school, as well as answer questions you may have about your child.
Art Lines
In the art room, we are almost ready to send our Original Works Orders, for our annual art department fund raiser, back to the company for processing! This time of year has become a bit of a tradition as parents have their favorite selections they enjoy purchasing each year for treasured memories. One of the favorite items has become the quilt square. Several moms have shared how they intend to sew these into a quilt for their children after their special time at Tigerville comes to an end for their fifth grade year! So many wonderful products are available including some new ones for this year! We have a very nice apron, a small easel with the art work to display, and a new personal planner as just a few of the new offerings. The Last date to send in your orders is Friday, November 1st!! Don’t forget to order your special art gifts for wonderful Keep-sake Christmas gifts! PLEASE remember, the magnets are for preview of the art…they are not FREE! Send in money for the magnet as well as for additional purchases or return the magnet!! Thank you for help with this. Arrival of purchased products are currently scheduled for delivery by the first week of December!!
Our annual PTA Reflections Contest is up and running! The program is supported by our local, state, and national PTA organization to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves. Since then, the Reflections Arts Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork. Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through the arts areas of: Film Production, Dance Choreography, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. This art work is created by the individual student on their own time and returned to the school in which the student attends. The theme this year is - LOOK WITHIN. The interpretation of that theme idea is based on the student’s perspective of how they understand it. At Tigerville, we have great artists, writers, musicians, dancers and film makers!! Please encourage your child to participate in one or more of these special arts areas! Deadline for student work to be entered into the local school contest is the Tuesday before the Thanksgiving Holiday break…NOVEMBER 26th, 2019. Entry forms can be found at https://www.scpta.org/main.php?pid=3 for printing and editing. For more information, you can call or email Mrs. Sherry Smith (art teacher) @ 864-355-4641 / slysmith@greenville.k12.sc.us/ . There will be a limited number of entry forms available in the front office of the school beginning next week! I Look forward to seeing, reading and hearing your entries!!
Finally, the art room will be bustling with seasonal projects for the next few months. We are currently busy making art to celebrate our Veteran’s Day program on November 7th. Bring a Veteran to honor and check out our patriotic ART from the HEART!! Immediately after those projects are completed we will be making beautiful art ornaments for our very own Tigerville Christmas tree. I am sure I will be in need of some helper volunteers at specific grade levels so if you are interested in participating as a volunteer in the art room for the month of November please let me know! Creative energy is flowing throughout our special school, where enlightening is always happening!!
