FOURTH GRADE APRIL ANNOUNCEMENTS
April 2022
April's character trait is Curiosity.
This school year is going by so fast and we're going to have a very busy, albeit short month, with Easter break from April 14th-22nd! I am so proud of the students and all of their hard work.
Thank you to all of the families who have already contributed to our Easter "Bansket" project for the HT Food Bank. The plan was conceived by the students themselves and over 100 cans were collected in the first week! The food drive continues through April 13th and volunteers mentioned a specific need for canned fruit, though all donations are greatly appreciated. Way to put the Works of Mercy into action!
Academic Sharing has also been such a joy these past months! The students inspire one another with their creativity and preparation. We have learned about so many interests, hobbies and experiences of each individual. The sharing has been incredible (and sometimes edible)!
Did you hear about the class Jog-a-thon incentive? As soon as the minimum $100 in pledges is received from each student in the class...there will be no homework assignments until after Jog-a-thon! The sooner each individual student turns in their pledges, the sooner it goes into effect!
I do hope that everyone returns spiritually and physically renewed after Easter!
Blessings,
Mrs. Connell
Curriculum:
Religion: The focus this month is on the essential question: How do God's laws teach me to love God and others? The students will understand how the Ten Commandments guide our relationships. They will learn about the Precepts of the Church and how they strengthen our union with God and the Church. The class will complete a Resurrection Eggs project to share their understanding of Jesus's Passion and Resurrection with their families.
Math: The students will identify and measure angles as turns and decompose angles using pattern blocks. We will continue our geometry unit defining and constructing triangles and quadrilaterals. The class will recognize and generate equivalent fractions. Students will continue their practice of multiplication and division facts with Freckle and daily drills.
English/Language Arts: The class will continue reading and responding to our class novel, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with discussions, journal entries, quizzes and activities. Grammar lessons will improve their understanding of conventions, phonics, spelling, and vocabulary using Writers' Workshop, their grammar text, and Your Turn (Wonders) practice book.
Academic Sharing: Student presentations this month will relate to a topic of their choice.
Science: The students will obtain and combine information to describe that energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and that their uses affect the environment.
Social Studies: Students will compare how and why pioneers traveled and settled in California. They will be able to explain the economic, social and political life in our state from the establishment of the Bear Flag Republic through the Mexican-American War and the Gold Rush.
Students and parents are requested to check Gradelink weekly for current grades, upcoming assignments and missing work!
Please send a note or email if your child is absent. Please also refer to the HT Handbook for absentee make up policies. If your child misses school due to a medical/dental/ortho appointment, attendance will be adjusted with documentation.
