Davis Richmond E-news

On Wednesday, Governor Pritzker announced that he has issued an Executive Order that supports safe in-person learning and mandates that masks be worn indoors by all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to PreK-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.

In District 303, we remain committed to the health and safety of our students and staff members. As we previously shared with you, we plan to implement layered mitigation strategies for the 2021-2022 school year that also include upgraded air filters, physical distancing, hand washing, respiratory etiquette, and COVID-19 testing. Information about registering your child for weekly SHIELD testing was sent to families in an email earlier this week..

The Governor’s order goes into effect immediately. Students and staff members who participate in camps and activities prior to the beginning of school must wear a mask while indoors regardless of vaccination status. While participating in outdoor activities, masks are not required.

COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination

District 303, in cooperation with the University of Illinois’s SHIELD testing program, is offering optional, free weekly saliva COVID-19 testing to all unvaccinated students and staff. The test is simple, fast, and takes place at school during the school day. This testing program is one of the many mitigation strategies in place in District 303 and in school districts across the state to control the spread of COVID-19 in schools. Testing will begin the week of August 16.

Positive results will be communicated to families by SHIELD or school personnel after the results are returned from the lab, typically in less than 24 hours.

Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaNzXT1aIFs to see how the saliva collection works. Middle school and high school will use the method shown at the beginning of the video; elementary school and early childhood will use the method shown starting at 2:23 in the video.

Please visit https://district.d303.org/forms/list.php?id=covid-shield to enroll your child in the testing program no later than Monday, August 9. You will need to log in with your HAC login to access the enrollment form. If you enroll your child after August 9, he/she may need to wait until the week of August 23 to begin participation in the program.

Separately, if your child has been fully vaccinated and you wish to share that information with the school, drop off a copy of your child’s CDC vaccination card or a record from his/her physician to the main office at your school. Alternatively, your child may drop off the document at any time after school has started.
