Principal Keener's Message...
Home/School Partnership
Thank you to all our families who joined us for the Open House. When you know your child’s educational expectations and routines you can lift your child’s schooling experience.
Much happens during a full day of school. Our days are routinized to maximize student learning. Even though we schedule each day to meet today’s educational demands, we have realized the need for choice. Intermediate level Encores allow students to step away from normal procedures and pursue their own learning interests. Encores help build expert citizens in their field.
The District’s Personalized Learning meets students at their learning level. Our school-wide formative assessments guide our instructional programs. Results from these assessments guide teachers’ small group instructions so students are learning at their just right level.
Students learn faster when they know their own learning levels and academic goals. They’ll learn even faster when families understand these goals and abilities. Mid-quarter progress reports are coming out this week. Reflect upon your child’s progress and contact your teacher if you have questions or concerns.
We are well into the school year. If you missed Open House, the Mid-Quarter Progress Reports are one means of understanding your child’s academic expectations. Contact your child’s teacher to learn more about their progress and learning routines.
Happy Equinox.
Assistant Principal Mrs. Kokrine's Message...
Hello! Your school is fabulous! I am fortunate to be the Assistant Principal of Arctic Light Elementary. My philosophy is that this is your school. We work together cooperatively in the best interest of your child.
Thank you for attending the Open House. The music at the beginning set the tone for a fun evening. The teachers work very hard for your children. Please continue the communication with your child’s teacher.
My time will be split between here and Ticasuk Brown Elementary. I love my time at Arctic Light which is on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
I was born and raised in Alaska. I have been an educator for over twenty years in Fairbanks. My husband and I have four grown children.
I look forward to a fantastic year at your school! We are off to a great start! I can often be seen at the front doors in the morning greeting students!
Quick Reminders from the Front Office
- In order to keep traffic flowing, if walking your student in please park in designated parking spots with your "K Pass." Along the curb is for drop off only.
- Make sure to check and update any parental permissions in Powerschool and make sure all FERPA information is correct for your individual students.
Sphero Mini Robot (see picture above) Written by Isadora and Logan
Have you ever heard of the Sphero Mini?
Well, if you haven’t here is what it all does. There are all kinds of things you can do with it starting with games to programming. With the games you use the Sphero as a controller. With programming you can make it go or do whatever you want it to. You will use angles for which way you want it to go and have as much or little speed as you want.
There are different ways to control it. The most basic is joystick, the faster you move it the faster and farther it goes. There is also slingshot, which is where you hold back and it shoots it where ever way you want it to go. Then there is tilt, you tilt the device, whichever way you tilt it goes that way. Finally, there is kick, which is kind of like the joystick, except it goes faster and it doesn't stop immediately after you take your finger off.
We’re programming the Sphero Mini to go from Mr. Wolfe’s classroom into Mr. Keener’s office. Once we do that, we’ll teach other students.
