Cut
Cut, is a book about a girl, Callie, who spends time at a facility called
Sea Pines, better known as Sick Minds, for cutting herself. Callie spends this time at Sea Pines for cutting herself but when Tiffany, a girl at Sea Pines, goes home she realizes that she wants to get better, wants to change. She sees that her family, the people at Sea Pines, her friends all want her to get better. She sees that all along they wanted her to get better but only she could make herself better. "'Me too." I mean this, suddenly, with all my heart. They look at me like they don't quite understand and I try hard to find the words that will make them see what I mean. "I...I want...I want..." And then I know what it is I wanted so badly the day Tiffany went home, the day it first felt like spring, when I pictured kids riding bikes, dads cooking on grills, moms pouring lemonade. "I want to get better.'" (150) I used the image of a little piece of metal Callie finds and saves in case she needs to cut. She has an opportunity but doesn't take it instead she turns it into her therapist. I think this shows her not wanting to have to cut and her progress against cutting. I also used the image of spring cookouts because Callie realizes she misses these little usual and common things.

Asylum
Asylum is about a college student named Dan who travels to a university with an old asylum on campus which just happens to be where his dorms are. When strange events start to happen, like the murder of a student, Dan begins to see ties connecting him to the asylum. Dan isn't sure what is real or what he is and isn't doing. When the truth that he is being influenced by his long passed relative, the warden of the asylum, he fights against it to prevent history from repeating and tries to get him and his friends out of this nightmare alive. When Dan realizes that he is being controlled by the Warden and the Sculptor he realizes that he is not crazy, he sees someone else is doing this, or making him do it, he no longer thinks he is mad. Him being "crazy" was his truth but when he sees the influences being made by the Warden this changes the truth. "'Not my finest hour, to be sure, but I did do a bang-up job messing with your mind, just as you used to mess with mine" He hissed the last words into Dan's ear.'" (284) In this moment Dan apprehends that Felix has been messing (for lack of a better word) with Dan and the Warden is messing with him too. Felix thinks he is the Sculptor and he thinks Dan is the Warden. For the images I used the scalpel because when the scalpel in Dan's hand lowers against his will that is when he realizes the Warden is controlling him. I used the image of restraints because he is put in restraints and puts Felix in the restraints, repeating history, allowing the Warden to come in contact with him.

A Frog in a Well Explains the World
The the world is round
and deep
and cool.
The bottom of the world's
a pool
with just enough room
for a frog alone.
The walls of the world
are of stone on stone.
At the top of the world,
when I look up high,
I can see a star
in a little round sky.
