Story of Perseverance Project

This project will change your life!

Overview of Project:

Select an individual who has overcome an obstacle or challenge in their life. You may select a celebrity, historical figure, athlete or just about anyone who has persevered. Research their story. Tell their story in your own words via one of the options below. Be sure to include the impact this person's story has had on you personally.

Option 1: Essay & Presentation

Write a three paragraph, typed, MLA formatted essay. Submit your completed essay to me via turnitin.com. Give a two minute presentation to the class. Your essay should follow the structure outlined below. Bibliography page citing two sources must be included.


Paragraph 1: Introduction of the individual. Who are they? What is their profession? Detail who they are and briefly introduce the obstacle or challenge they faced.


Paragraph 2: Describe in detail that challenge/obstacle this person faced and what this individual had to do to overcome their challenge or obstacle. What have they achieved? What have they learned? How did they grow as a person?


Paragraph 3: Personal Reflection. How has learning about his person's story had an impact on your life? What have you learned? What has this person's struggle taught you about yourself and life in general?

Option 2: PowerPoint Presentation

Create a 12 slide minimum powerpoint presentation. Submit your completed powerpoint to me via onedrive at myoshida@cnusd.k12.ca.us. You will present your powerpoint to the class in a 5-10 minute presentation. Your powerpoint should follow the structure outlined below.

* All slides must include 1 photo minimum. Slide 1 can be title page and slide 12 should be bibliography page citing two sources.

Option 3: Adobe Spark Video Presentation

Using Adobe Spark, create a 5 minute minimum video presentation. Submit your completed video to me via email at myoshida@cnusd.k12.ca.us. You will premiere your video to your class but you will not need to give an additional presentation. Your video will need to follow the structure outlined below.


Your video should begin with an introduction of the individual. Who are they? What is their profession? Detail who they are and briefly introduce the obstacle or challenge they faced.



The video should then describe in detail that challenge/obstacle this person faced and what this individual had to do to overcome their challenge or obstacle. What have they achieved? What have they learned? How did they grow as a person?


The video should conclude with a personal reflection. How has learning about his person's story had an impact on your life? What have you learned? What has this person's struggle taught you about yourself and life in general?

Important First Steps to take

1) Complete the Google Form

Decide who your project will be about and which option you will choose to tell their story. Complete the Google Form by 11:59pm on Friday, November 17. This is a 50 point assignment. You will only receive 25 points if the form is completed after the due date.

2) Begin researching your person!

Once you receive a confirmation email from Mrs. Yoshida letting you know that your selection is approved, read articles and bios on your person, watch YouTube videos to get a good understanding of who this person is, what they went through, how they struggled and how they overcame and persevered. Take notes and plan how you will tell their story.

3) Complete your Assignment
