Pennies for Patients
The month of February we are participating in the Pennies for Patients Fundraising Program. We will be raising money to help fund research to help find a cure for childhood blood cancers and to help children with blood cancer receive treatment . The homeroom that raises the most money will win a PIZZA Party. Activities that will help raise money for Pennies for Patients will be” Candy Grams for a Cure”, “Pucker Up Event” at the Valentine’s Day Dance on February 12th and “Clean Out the Console” on February 26th in morning during student dropoff.
7th Grade
Science
Students just finished the unit on the Human Body. We are now learning about Genetics and Heredity. We will be testing over the Genetics and Heredity unit on the Friday before the February winter break (February 12th). Students in Mr. Norton’s science class have a Genetics Family History project due on that day as well. This project is a completely AT HOME assignment. The project is a requirement for Mr. Norton’s 1st and 4th block classes, and is an optional extra credit assignment in Mr. Norton’s 2nd and 3rd block classes.
Social Studies
Students are learning about the culture and government of Africa.
Language Arts
All students are invited to participate in the Georgia Young Writers competition. All entries are due to Mrs. Sobolewski by Friday February 12, 2016.
Math
Students just finished up a unit on Equations and Inequalities and are currently working on Ratios and Proportions. Students are discovering how to find the best deal by calculating the unit price! In addition, accelerated math students are working on a geometry unit where they graph translations, rotations, reflections, and dilations.
Other Information
Students attending the overnight field trip to Savannah, Georgia need to have the payment of $150.00 turned in by Friday, February 12th. The remaining $150.00 isn’t due until April, 1st. Students should turn money in to Mrs. Shaddix. Please return the green and purple field trip forms to Mr. Norton. If you are going on the trip and haven’t received these forms, come by Mrs. Jackson’s room to pick them up. As May approaches, more information will be sent home concerning the trip.
Progress Reports
Progress reports need to be signed and returned to homeroom teachers by Wednesday, February 10th.
Reminders
Parents should check student agendas/behavior cards periodically. Students with 95 points or better are eligible for the Principal’s Celebration at the end of every 9 weeks. Students may earn points back at teacher’s discretion.
Georgia Milestone’s testing will be from April 26May 2. Students may access Study Island offcampus to review.
