Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

Happy May 12th! Or, as the Seniors refer to it.. 8 School Days to Go! (not counting exams or special senior celebration days...) There's a saying that feels so true at this moment: The days feel like years, but the years feel like minutes. As we prepare to celebrate another class graduating, it was just yesterday they were attending their Freshmen Orientation day! We remember them all, and are just amazed, inspired, and excited for their futures! Senior Parents, if you haven't checked out the Senior Letter (also mailed out on May 8th) - we have it linked below with all the year-end information for you as you plan family events.

Today's Mass - our annual May Crowning - was beautiful and emotional in so many ways. Above all, the opportunity to celebrate Mary in such a loving way is the highlight of the season. Our talented vocal ensemble sings Ave Maria as our dedicated Senior Retreat Team Leaders take turns adorning our statue of Mary with red and white roses in front of the entire school family. How wonderful to celebrate our Holy Mother as Mother's Day approaches!

Finally, as we all learned earlier this week, Father Doyle has been assigned to Dixon, Illinois. At this - his final All-School Mass - the students did something extraordinary: at the end of Father's homily, the students gave him a standing ovation. Then, at the conclusion of the Mass, the students again were on their feet, applauding and cheering for Father for at least five full minutes. They all just wanted to hold on to him just a second longer, show him one more moment of gratitude, and fill his heart with memories of our school. During his homily, he quoted a Sister with whom he corresponds. He mentioned that she always signs her letters or notes with "I'll see you in the Eucharist." Above all, Father would want us to honor his work here by growing closer to God through the Eucharist. When God sends us great teachers, the best way to honor them is to remember their lessons. You have taught us well, Father Doyle.

IDEA: Community Businesses and School Collaboration

Come see what IDEA/INCubatorEdu is and how you and your business can get involved

Marian Central Catholic High School is introducing a new course: Innovative Design and Entrepreneurial Application, or IDEA. The course is driven by the INCubatoredu program, which offers students an authentic entrepreneurship experience. Students will develop and test their own product or service startup in an attempt to gain investment funds in a final shark-tank style pitch event.

Real entrepreneurs and business experts serve as volunteer coaches and mentors guiding student teams through the processes of developing hypotheses about a business concept and testing those hypotheses. This cycle of experimentation is combined with foundational business content such as marketing and finance. The businesses students build are real - they are not businesses cases or simulated experiences - which means students experience mistakes, take risks, and learn to pivot based on market needs.

We need YOU, the business professional, to make this happen. Make a difference in your community and join us.

On MAY 17th at 7:00 pm, we are hosting an INFORMATIONAL MEETING for all to join us!

Click on the invite below and join us for this free session! Come be a part of MARIAN HISTORY as we launch this exciting program!

Congratulations to Jacob Feidler for placing 7th in the ICTM Math Competition in the Pre-Calculus Category!

The Seniors are getting RESTLESS! As we are counting down the final days of their high school career, the excitement is building. However, we really need to stress the importance of finishing strong: keep those grades up, finish assignments and projects, "play up until that final buzzer!"

On Monday, May 8th, we will be mailing out this attached SENIOR LETTER; but we thought an electronic copy, including links, would come in handy as you are planning your graduation celebrations!

Help STRIKE-OUT Cancer! May 23, 2017

We are proud to sponsor another event where two talented teams come together to support one cause! On Tuesday, May 23rd, the MC Varsity Baseball team will play Woodstock at 4:30pm on Thomas Bolger Field (Field of Dreams) and all donations raised will benefit the American Cancer Society in their efforts to combat cancer.

Now Seeking Host Families for International Student!

Dear Marian Central Catholic Parents,

We have an exciting opportunity for our families. Our school has partnered with the International Partnership of Education Research and Communication (IPERC) Foundation to expand our interactions with students and educators from China, and to help share the cultures of our respective countries to truly develop global learners at our school. Through this partnership, we have accepted a student to be a part of the MCCHS community for the 2017-18 academic year. We are currently looking for great family who will welcome this student into their home during the academic year. Attached is a flyer with additional information about becoming a host family. If you are interested, please contact Mike Maloney at for additional information. Thank you for your consideration.

Uniform Information and Lands' End Sale

It's usually around the end of the school year when we take inventory of what uniforms still fit, which can be donated, and what needs to just be pitched due to wear and tear.

We ask that if you do not have friends or family members to donate your uniforms to, please consider dropping them off here at Marian. We appreciate always being able to have uniforms of all sizes available for students in the event of emergencies, or even helping out a mid-year transfer student.

We will not be making any changes to the uniform policy for the 2017-2018 school year, so please refer to our Uniform Visual Guide for requirements. We have noticed a few students wearing non-Marian uniform pants: please know this is considered "out of uniform" and the students will be issued warnings and detentions. Also - consider purchasing one of the fleece jackets or pull-overs we now offer as part of the uniform.

Lands' End is running a "Friends and Family" discount right now through Tuesday, May 16th, offering 30% off PLUS free shipping on orders more than $50!

Use Promo Code: LESUFRIEND and PIN: 5516 when you order online at Lands End

These HURRICANES are STATE-BOUND! Congratulations to these amazing athletes!

Final Principal's Coffee a Success!

Thank you to the parents who were able to join Ms. Novy in this evening event! We strive to keep you informed of events, reminders, and updates on a weekly basis through this newsletter, but these coffees offer a true conversation and exchange of ideas. We are looking forward to continuing this tradition next year with you! Linked, please find the Principal's Coffee 5/11/17 Minutes of topics discussed!

Lunch $$ Balance Information

Please check your student's lunch card balances and add funds if needed. We are noticing more and more students running out of money and cannot purchase food items. Don't worry about trying to run the account balance to $0. Balances carry over from one year to the next, from graduating seniors to siblings, or will be refunded with the graduation.
