Bringing the Joy to Learning and Growing Everyday!
The 1st Day of School is Tuesday, July 31st
Corporation-wide security procedures are being enforced where parents will NOT be able to walk their students to class on the first day as in years past. Don't worry - we have arranged for staff members and volunteers to be stationed throughout the hallways, ready to assist any child who needs some helping finding their way.
If you don't follow us on facebook, here is the link to Mrs. Walker's last facebook message for Brentwood families. https://www.facebook.com/BrentwoodElem/videos/2145162842364377/
A note from the principal...
I would like to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year at Brentwood Elementary School. We are excited about another year where we will demonstrate excellence in our achievement, attitude and actions. Brentwood Elementary School exists for the purpose of providing the BEST possible education for your child and to prepare them for college and careers as life-long learners. We do this by providing our students with rich and robust academic programs, extracurricular activities and clubs that challenge and stimulate their minds as well as enhance their physical development, and “Expect Excellence Everywhere”. We are on a mission to Bring Joy To Learning and we are eager to have you as a partner on the most important job in the world: raising our future leaders.
Please know that we are here to support you in this challenging but rewarding responsibility. There are great things happening at Brentwood Elementary School this year. We encourage families and the community to be involved in the educational process. If you would like to visit the school, please consider yourself invited and welcome! You will see some new faces, new clubs and activities, and increased student acknowledgement and celebrations. Students who have families that make education a priority, usually do better in school and the preparation for future endeavors. The Brentwood Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) provides several events throughout the school year and support students and staff daily. I would strongly encourage all families to join this organization and take an active role in your child’s educational journey.
The Plainfield Community School Corporation has earned a reputation of being an “A” rated school district and a school system of choice for many families. Brentwood has contributed to this reputation and will continue this tradition of excellence with the highest quality staff, professional learning and with a “student first” mindset. Our data shows the dedication and hard work of our teacher and students.
Every year we expect all of our students to experience success. We are looking for you to help us help your children to be the best that they can be. Here are some areas where you can help set your child up for success:
1. Please put your children to bed early. Studies have shown that children who sleep for at least 8 hours do better in school.
2. Please give your child a hearty breakfast, or make sure they arrive in time to get breakfast at school.
3. Please make sure that you get your child to school on time every day and that he/she remains at school all day. Everyday Counts!!!
This student/parent handbook has been assembled to help students and parents understand the school expectations and procedures. While this handbook in not all-inclusive, it does provide the basic rules, procedures and safety expectations that guides our decision-making.
I looking forward to working with you and your child this school year!

Information from our Transportation Department
Returning Students
Bus information is now available for parents to view on the PowerSchool Parent portal. Parents will only be able to view theinformation if they are using PowerSchool in a web browser. (The PowerSchool Parent app will not have the bus information.) You can obtain the information in PowerSchool in the transportation section.Kindergarten & New Students
Kindergarten or new students that are new to Brentwood will receive a call from their bus driver by July 30th.
Has Your Address Changed?
Have you moved recently? If your child rides the bus, we want to make sure your child is picked up on schedule and dropped off safely to your home. If you have changed addresses since you did the online registration in PowerSchool, we will need to have you fill out a transportation form so we can pass the information to the transportation department so your child's bus route can be updated.
You can find this form on our website. From the main page, click EXPLORE, then DOCUMENTS, and in the FORMS 2018-2019 folder you will find the Transportation_Data_Form. Please return this form to the main office as soon as you can, so the appropriate changes can be made. Call us if you have any questions!
Brentwood Uses a Car Rider System to Dismiss Car Riding Studnets
Please look for information to come home the first day of school in your child's folder if you are a new student to Brentwood Elementary. If your student is in Kindergarten or 1st grade they should have a matching Car Rider Number back pack tag. With your sign up you will receive four copies of your family's car rider number to give to the people who are authorized to pick up your child and will do so most often.
If you had a car rider number assigned to your family last year, that will still be your family's number this year, and in an effort to save paper we will not be sending everyone new forms. If you need new signs made for your existing car rider number please let the office know.
We appreciate your patience as we get started into a new school year with new families and this procedure.

Become a Brentwood Volunteer
1. Every volunteer, field trip chaperone, or classroom party volunteer must have a background check completed through PCSC. Many of your completed these forms when you enrolled your children online this year as the forms were included. If you still need to fill one out for this year please contact the office well in advance of your first visit to do this.
2. Every volunteer must also complete a PCSC Confidentiality Volunteer Agreement in the office upon their first time volunteering each year.
3. Every visitor to our building during school hours must check-in at the reception desk and be entered into our Safe Visitor system. The very fist time you visit you must have your Driver's License or State Issued ID Card which will be scanned into the computer. Most likely you will NOT need it again upon subsequent visits because the system stores your information. (However, should a glich appear in the system and it is required of you it would be more convenient on you if you had your ID with you.) Every visitor is photographed at the same time they are checked in upon their first visit also.
Thank you for your flexibility as we continue to learn this software during our second year of its use. We know your first priority, as ours in the office, is the safety of all of our children.
(Lunch Room visitors will sit at a specially designated table with only their child and therefore will only be checked into our Safe Visitor system (#3) above.) They are not required to complete steps 1-2 above unless they want to volunteer in a classroom or small group setting, chaperone a field trip, or help out at PTO run classroom parties or events.)
