Principal's Corner
Greetings Flynn Families,
Now that we have been back in school for a full month, students and educators are starting to build joyful connections as they engage in their academics. Thank you so much to all the families who attended our Open House this month. It was a very joyful time, and so many families attended! Thank you also to the PTO for the successful barbeque…I saw many tasty treats being passed around before Open House and so many smiling faces. It finally feels like a somewhat more normal school year and like a return to the interconnected community of Flynn that thrived prior to the pandemic.
As a staff, our priorities this year are shifting to a literacy program built on engagement and building behavior systems that are restorative and meaningful.
In the coming months, students will continue to learn about the five values of Flynn (friendship, growth, curiosity, joy, and accountability). I encourage you to keep talking to your child about how they can align their behaviors to our community values with the choices they make as well as to reflect on moments when they aren't yet able to align their behaviors with community values - this is an opportunity for learning, growth, and development!
With literacy programming that focuses on building reading engagement and reading skills, our hope is that we can support every child to discover a love of reading. I encourage you to talk with your child about what they’re reading at school, the types of books they’re most interested in, and how their reading skills are evolving and growing at school.
Thank you for your continued dedication and support of all Flynn Elementary students and our pursuit of building and maintaining welcoming, rigorous, and joyful spaces for all kids.
In partnership,
Nikki Ellis
Counselors Corner
It has been great spending time with students thus far and joining them in the classroom. We would like input from you regarding what groups you would like to see offered to students this year. Please click here for our parent community needs assessment. If you would like a paper copy or would like to support completing the community assessment please reach out to your student’s grade level school counselor: Jill Everett (K-2) and Emily Russen (3-5).
In partnership,
Emily Russen, Jill Everett, Laura Ellis and Kaila Krouse

PTO Corner
THANK YOU to all who volunteered to make this year’s BACK TO SCHOOL BBQ a fun, delicious, and successful event for our school community last week!
Our next PTO meeting is October 6th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Library. In-person and online attendance options are available, and if you come in-person, childcare is available. (Shout out to the wonderful Ms. Wanda!)
