ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
AVID ~ Understanding how to take effective notes is essential for academic success. While there is no right or wrong way to take notes, there are some strategies scholars can use to make note taking more meaningful:
Be prepared. Before you sit down for a learning lab session or to review your online lessons, remember to have the proper equipment in place and ready for use. Whether you use pen, paper and highlighters or a digital tool, be ready to take useful notes.
Strive to be a good listener. This begins with eliminating distractions and focusing on the lesson.
Learn and develop your own style of note taking. It’s important to develop a note taking system that suits your learning style. Don’t know your learning style? Use this link for more information and take a quiz to find your learning style.
Consider using abbreviations, symbols and mnemonic devices. These strategies can help paraphrase the concepts you are reviewing and make the information more meaningful to you.
