A Message from our Principal...
Dear Jefferson Families,
May 14, 2021
Dear Jefferson Families,
Two more weeks of school! Yikes!!! It feels as though we just got started and we’re now wrapping up the school year. I have been so impressed with our students all year, but now more so than ever. Those who come into school do so with smiles and greetings for us. Those at home write us emails and send us encouraging chat messages on zoom. They all make efforts to compliment one another and recognize each other’s effort and good work. They really are exhilarated about schoolwork. I’ve had the privilege of talking with many, many students who share with me what they have learned about a new concept in math class or how eager they are to read the next chapter of the book that they are reading as a class. They have shared poignant poems and detailed short stories, stunning art pieces and creative flipgrid videos. The vast majority of our students have demonstrated that they are ready to learn new concepts and to practice essential skills until they become easy. Their resilience though such a very challenging school year is heartwarming. They give me such hope for the future. I honestly believe that our students recognize how important school is for them and that they really love it. I hope that you come away with that belief too.
Please keep in touch with us. We value your feedback. If there is anything we can do to help your child in any way please, call us.
Happy spring weather,
Dr. Judy Floeter

Bee Mindful...
Hello Harvard parents,
It's never too early to start thinking about the upcoming school year and the supplies your student(s) will need. The Salvation Army has reached out to our district and asked us to spread the word about their "Back to School Program". Please call the The Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 815-455-2769, located at 290 W Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake to receive an application and set up a time to pick up a backpack. Their requirement to receive a free backpack is the following: eligibility is based on annual household income that is $52,400 or less for a family of four (they make adjustments for larger families or those affected by Covid-19) and living in McHenry County. To qualify for assistance, families must provide the following information:
1. One form of verification of residency in McHenry County- driver's license, utility bill, lease agreement, etc.
2. Proof of household monthly income- pay stubs, child support, social security, etc.
3. Birth Certificates for each of the children receiving a backpack (they no longer take social security cards only).
Applications will be accepted and the backpacks are distributed at the same time in Crystal Lake on:
Thursday, August 5- 10am-12pm / 1pm-3pm / 5pm-7pm
Friday, August 6- 10am-12pm / 1pm-3pm / 5pm-7pm
Saturday, August 7- 8am-12pm

"Check Out" what's going on in the Library
One of the key things we teach at Jefferson, in addition to being respectful and safe, is to be responsible. Please help your student practice responsibility by helping them look for their books and/or paying any fines so they can start the 2021-2022 school year with a clean slate. Thank you for your support.
Library books can be returned to any school in the district. They do not need to be returned to the school they came from. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Maggie Binz (mbinz@cusd50.org) or Heather Kriete (hkriete@cusd50.org).
Please help encourage your children to continue reading over the summer! A great way to motivate them is to join the Summer Reading Club at the Harvard Diggins Library where they can enjoy crafts, games, and prizes! Check your child's Library Google Classroom for more information.

JUMPSTART
Jumpstart is a week-long ‘camp’ to help students develop relationships with their peers, acclimate to their school building, and learn skills and strategies to help them be successful in the upcoming school year.
Jumpstart is not academic in nature. The purpose of the program is to address each student’s social-emotional needs and help them feel comfortable and at ease with the structure and requirements of in-person school.
Jumpstart is projected to run week-long sessions starting at the end of July. More details will be available in the upcoming months.
