Thursday is the 100th Day of School!!
Next Thursday (1/28) is Hornets Spirit Day!
The Charlotte Hornets' mascot, Hugo the Hornet, will be coming to school on the 28th to do a wonderful reading assembly with the students at FMES. On this day, we are asking students to wear their Hornets gear/colors (teal and purple). This should be a really fun experience for all the students here.
Next Friday (1/29) is FMES Spirit Day!
Students are encouraged to come decked out in their FMES spirit wear next Friday. The school store will also be open in the morning.
Socratic Seminar
In my ELA block, we will begin conducting Paideia Seminars once a week, on Thursdays. These are student-led discussions on a specific passage or topic. Hopefully this will teach students discussion stratgegies, as well as create higher-level thinking skills. Here is a link to some information on Paideai (also called Socratic Seminar). If you have any questions about it, please do not hesitate to ask. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9GJYauGecw
Rubik's Cubes
We have had some major issues lately with students and Rubik's cubes at school. Because of this, I have made a class rule that they are ONLY to be used at recess. If they are brought out in class, the hallway, or lunch, they will be confiscated and given directly back to parents. I am happy that this toy is making a come back and students are being challenged in puzzle-solving, but when they become a distraction from instruction, we must set rules in place. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding Rubik's cubes.
