Introducing the Special Education Coordinator Team

Sonia Shelton, Ed.S.

Dear Families,

My name is Sonia Shelton and I will be serving as the Special Education Coordinator for all of the Ladue Elementary Schools and the Fifth Grade Center. I am very excited about the opportunity to serve the students and families of the Ladue School District. My experience in public education spans 23 years and includes time spent in regular, gifted, and special education. I have been and continue to be a lifelong learner as I strive to complete the necessary work to earn my doctorate degree.

I previously worked as a special education coordinator in the Cape Girardeau School District and found the work to be challenging but also very rewarding. I spent the last nine years working for the Rockwood School District as a school psychological examiner and student support specialist. I believe my education and experience have not only prepared me for this position but created a desire to return to special education and serve as a committed and compassionate SSD team member.

I believe parents are the best advocates for their children and I look forward to working with each of you as we come alongside our teachers, related service providers, administrators and students to ensure a team approach as we strive to meet the needs of each student and give them the support they need to become the best version of themselves.

If you have questions, concerns, or just want to introduce yourself, please reach out via email or phone.
