Tenth Grade Honors
where deep thinking comes natural
About the Course
Honors courses move at an accelerated pace while focusing on higher order thinking skills. Emphasis will be placed on developing cognitive and metacognitive skills through the reading and analysis of texts from various genres and multicultural writers. Emphasis will be placed on world cultures and literature that exemplifies those cultures. Critical analysis skills will be developed through in-depth class discussions and writing about literature. Projects and writing assignments will also be an essential part of our study of literature. Students will develop a working knowledge of the standards set forth by the Modern Language Association (MLA) for formal writing, including research and citation skills. Students will be introduced to argumentative writing, to include logical fallacies and argumentative techniques.

It is my goal to work with you to help your child succeed in the course. Student attendance and academic progress is available through PowerSchool. If you have questions or concerns, you may email me directly or schedule a conference by contacting the school secretaries. If you would like to meet with all of your child's teachers at one time, you will need to mention that while you are scheduling your conference.
