IMPORTANT IN-PERSON LEARNING UPDATE!

In case you missed the message that was sent out earlier this week, we have been approved by Puyallup Tribal Council and PTHA's Medical Director Dr. Alan Shelton to bring back our secondary students beginning Tuesday, February 1.

Elementary will remain online due to a broken sprinkler and water damage that occurred earlier this month. There were 9 classrooms, several offices and the two main hallways that need work. The repairs should be completed in 2 to 3 weeks, and we are expecting to welcome back elementary students to in-person learning on February 23. If the restoration is finished earlier and there are no delays, we will bring back students sooner.

We appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this time. Please be checking your emails, phones, our website, and official social media for the latest updates on welcoming back our students to in-person learning.

Secondary Return to In-Person Reminders

On Monday, all students will check in only with their advisory class at 3:04pm. The rest of the day will be asynchronous work. It is urgent that all students bring in their device and their charger on Tuesday. We will be tracking computer and charger return and there will be an reward on Friday for those who have their devices and charger all week.

February is Career & Technical Education Month!

Career & Technical Education, also known as CTE, is a series of courses that lead to careers within Puyallup tribal enterprises in the community by providing students with the technical and occupational knowledge needed to be successful. The courses are often project-based with outcomes aligned to skills needed for the workplace. The our courses are directly connected to pathways found within the Puyallup tribal community, and connections are made with tribal leaders so our students see the content directly connected to experiences outside the classroom. Graduates of CTE programs are prepared for high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers.

What are our CTE pathways?

At CLS, we offer 5 pathways to our students: Culinary Arts, Nature Resources, Education Careers, Audio & Visual Technology, and Medical Careers! Each of these pathways could help our students land job opportunities within the Puyallup Tribe of Indians! Learn more on our website at leschischools.org/cte.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month, which honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. It became a month-long celebration in 1976 and the month of February was chosen to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. We have collected links that can help support your conversations at home and learn more about the important contributions Black individuals have made: https://bit.ly/CLSBlackHistoryMonth

Tech Tip!

Secondary Families: Did you know your students have access to an academic and career planning tool called Major Clarity? Students can log in through Clever, then they can explore various careers or colleges and also plan their classes to make sure they are prepared for what is next after graduation. Here’s a link to a 3 minute training on the Career Exploration feature. It is never too soon to start talking about future possibilities!
