CFKN Students, Staff and Families,
A huge "Thank You" to everyone who helped our North students sparkle and shine Wednesday evening March 29th. As Mrs. Agee recalled, the last time these children performed was in their K - 2 musical in the spring of 2019. It was wonderful to see our students have the opportunity to perform once again. I was so proud of all their hard work and efforts.
I would like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Peraza who videoed Wednesday night's program and to Mrs. Danielle Ruff who also helped our students backstage.
Click HERE to see CFK North's performance.
Also, I am including the program and insert for any guest who did not receive a program the night of the event.

Counselor's Corner
It is April and Spring has definitely sprung. We have only two months remaining in the school year and then summer is upon us. This is the last month that I will be in the classrooms for the school year. Due to that, I wanted to first take the time to first thank every one of you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you and your child this school year; it has truly been an honor and pleasure. I am glad that I made the transition to elementary counseling and I look forward to next year as I will be better prepared and effective now knowing what is required to successfully fulfill this role in both schools.
The month of April I will be doing different closing classroom counseling activities with grade levels. Fifth Grade lesson will be creating a keepsake to boost resiliency regarding the transition to middle school. Fourth and Third grade will be reflecting on their year both academically and social-emotionally and will identify key areas they have improved in this year and areas of difficulty and write a letter to theirselves which they will seal and revisit later next year to assist with resiliency. Kindergaten to second grade will learn how to demonstrate resiliencies and emotionally regulate through focused activities.
The month of April symbolizes transformations and fresh starts. Though this month in education symbolizes we are nearing the end of school, it can also be a time where students can began to transform and transition into the next grade level through reflecting on what worked this year. This will assist in building resilency and to assist in developing a positive outlook towards next year’s transition to the next grade. Resiliency is the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. This month I will be ending this year’s classroom counseling sessions ensuring that all students tap into their resiliency to assist with completing this year successfully and handling the transitions that will occur next year and throughout the summer.
Remember, if there is anything that arises apart from school that may impact your child’s emotional stability in school, please let me know so that I can support them in school.
Remember you are not judged by the situation but how you handle it,
Ms. Cooper-Shaw, School Counselor
Resilience and Elementary School Children
Elementary school children may be starting to form new friend groups and participate in new activities as they come into their own. As they start to study subjects about the world outside of their homes, they look to teachers as well as to parents to make them feel safe and to help sort it all out.
Make sure your child has a place where they can feel safe, whether that is home or school (ideally, both would feel safe).
Talk to your children. When they have questions, answer them honestly and with reassurance that includes simple statements that let them know you are taking actions to keep them safe and are there to take care of them. Listen to their concerns and fears when they address them with you and let them know you are there for them.
When there is a situation outside of the home that is frightening, limit the amount of news your children watch or listen to. There is always the possibility that they misinterpret what they see or hear on the news. You don’t need to hide what’s happening in the world from your children, but neither do they have to be exposed to constant stories that fuel their fears. Check in on their understanding of what they have been exposed to.
Realize that extra stressors may heighten normal daily stresses. Your children might normally be able to handle a failed test or teasing, but be understanding that they may respond with anger or bad behavior to stress that normally wouldn’t rattle them. Reassure them that you just want what is best for them and that you are there for them.
