NHS Induction
Harrisonville High School inducted 31 new members into its National Honor Society chapter during an induction ceremony on Tuesday, November 5.
The 2019 inductees included Hunter Baker, Hannah Bentley, Elizabeth Bostic, Lauren Burlingame, Trevor Campbell, Ethan Danner, Nathanael DeVenney, LaNae Eggers, George Frees, Landon George, Natalie Gibbs, Emily Gray, Kaelin Holden, Walker Holden, Grace Kirkemo, Kara Lemmer, Riley Mathew, Kyle Mensching, Selah Norman, Colleen O´Reilly, Mary O´Reilly, Hannah Reynolds, Dalton Schrock, Monte Schroeder, Alexis Sites, Rylee Smalley, James Tieman, Savannah Timmons, Olivia Tribble, Alyssa Wilson, and Hattie Wilson.
Red Ribbon Week
Harrisonville High School students participated in Red Ribbon Week activities, Oct. 21-25. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention campaign. Throughout the week, the HHS chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) hosted many activities.
Monday was Pajama Day (Today all your dreams will come true) and SADD members did a seat belt check in the morning. Eighty-four percent of drivers wore seatbelts and SADD also put red ribbons on cars to remind students to practice safe driving.
Tuesday was Hippie/Tie Dye Day (Peace out to destructive decisions). Wednesday was 80’s Day (Drinking is old school) and SADD had a seat belt convincer for students to participate in that mocked an actual crash with a seatbelt on. Thursday was Frat Day (Don’t pledge to drugs). Friday HHS wrapped up Red Ribbon Week with guest speaker Jess Angelique and her team of artists singing and speaking to encourage positivity and self-worth. They speakers also spent time in health classes.
The activities wrapped up with a kickball tournament following the football game on Friday night.
HHS participated in the districtwide food drive
Students and staff in the Harrisonville School District participated in collecting food for the annual food drive throughout the month of October. The HHS Drama Department’s Trick or Treat so Tots Can Eat program also helped to collect canned goods for the drive. 2,057 individual items were collected and in total 5,500 pounds of food was donated districtwide. All donations were donated to the Shepherd’s Staff Food Pantry sponsored by the Harrisonville Ministerial Alliance.
HHS students to attend leadership conference
Three Harrisonville High School students will participate in a leadership conference this summer thanks to funding from the Harrisonville Public School Foundation. Sophomores Kylie Meeks, Isaiah Bliss, and Isaac Chiodini will attend the Hugh O’Brian State Leadership Seminar. The students were selected by the HHS staff for this opportunity.
The Leadership Seminar is “designed to help high school sophomores recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.”
HOBY will be held June 4-7 at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
Student Council hosts blood drive
The Harrisonville High School Student Council collected 80 units of blood for the Community Blood Center during the school’s first blood drive of the year.
Many students and faculty from the high school participated in donating blood as well as a few members of the Harrisonville community. Eighty donors registered to give.
Student Council member Breezy Semler chaired the event with Noah Collins as co-chair. The blood drive was held on October 23.
The next blood drive is scheduled for February 26.
Student Council to host annual senior citizen event
HHS students write & direct one-acts
Harrisonville High School recently announced the cast and directors for its one-act plays. A new addition to this year’s performance is the fact that the one-acts were written by HHS creative writing students.
The one-acts include Lost in Transit written by Parker Rowland, directed by Breezy Semler, featuring Caleb Baker, Lydia Newman, Micah Cheek, Kinsley Brannon, and Halle Keeney; The Parody of Julius Ceaser written by Landen Laizure, directed by Mattew Hasenyager, featuring Clinton Howser, Elizabeth Allen, Virgil Shaddox, Micah Cheek, and Landen Laizure; Voices written by Libby East, directed by Michael Schuhler, featuring Emily Garrido-Calva, Lydia Newman, Rosalee Chartier, Brooklyn Fools, and Tabi Davis; All His Friends written by Mycah Akin, directed by Caitlyn Costner, featuring Amber Tabor, Caroline Ocheskey, Libby East, Gael Rios, Tabi Davis, Gabi Bratcher, Micah Cheek, and Clinton Howser; The Trial written by Coby Knoblauch, directed by Addie Howser, Lauren Burlingame, Dawson Carr, Katie Semler, Sophia Sparks, Caroline Ocheskey, and Jo-E Shopper.
The one-acts will be performed in the Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, December 11th at 7:00 p.m.
The Addams Family Musical
All-District Band honorees
Fourteen Harrisonville High School students have been selected to honor bands based on their talent.
Three HHS musicians were selected to the All-District Jazz Band - Landen Laizure; Trumpet, Michael Dahn; Trombone, Mary O'Reilly; Piano, Brad Cox; Drum Set Alternate.
The HHS musicians selected for the All-District Honor Band include Selah Norman; Flute, Kenna Hawley; Tenor Sax, Parker Rowland; Trumpet, Landen Laizure; Trumpet, Ryan Anderson; Trumpet, Alex Sheldrake; Tuba.
Those students selected to the All-District Honorable Mention Band include Kaitlin Sheldrake; Clarinet, Savannah Timmons; Bassoon, Michael Dahn; Trombone, Dillon Pippin; Horn Alternate, Jackson Hayes; Trombone Alternate, Walker Holden; Drum Set Alternate.
The jazz band and honor band students also qualify to audition for All-State groups in December.
Senior Mania Fundraiser
HHS Senior Mania will host a unique fundraiser o Saturday, Dec. 7. The Ford Drive seeks drivers over 18 to test drive a new Ford vehicle and Senior Mania will receive $20 for each test drive (one per household). The event begins in the student parking lot at HHS at 8 a.m.

Testing Information
- HHS has been selected to participate in a study being conducted by ACT. As a result, we will be administering the ACT, free of charge, to 80 of our current Juniors on December 14th!
- We received our ACT report from last school year. Our average composite score was 20.4. This was an increase from the 19.1 average composite from 2018. The Missouri state average composite was 20.8
- On October 12th we administered the ASVAB Test to 35 of our HHS Seniors.
- We have registered 90 HHS students for one of the AP exams.
Open House events at Cass Career, Summit Technology Campus
The Cass Career Center invites students, parents and the community to attend an Open House on Tuesday, January 21 from 5:30-7 p.m. This come-and-go event will offer guests the opportunity to learn more about the programs offered at Cass Career Center.
Cass Career Center offers classes for high school students and adults.
Harrisonville students can enroll at CCC beginning their freshman year in hourly courses in agriculture and marketing. Students from HHS and sending schools can enroll at CCC as juniors.
The programs offered at CCC include agriculture, automotive technology, construction technology, criminal justice/CSI, emergency medical tech, firefighting, health sciences, marketing, welding, and networking/cyber security.
The schools’ adult Practical Nursing program will be participating in the open house as well and will be sharing information about the 11-month accelerated LPN program offered at the CCC.
The Cass Career Center’s Community Education program will be on hand to provide information on spring classes (see insert in this newsletter) as well as future opportunities.
This Open House event will provide attendees with a chance to talk to both teachers and students currently enrolled in the programs and learn about the opportunities to earn industry certifications and college credit.
Summit Technology Campus
Students and families interested in learning about Summit Technology Academy are invited to attend any of several upcoming open house events.
The open house nights, and back-up inclement weather dates, are:
● 6 p.m. Jan. 9 (inclement weather back-up is Jan. 16)
● 6 p.m. Feb. 6 (inclement weather back-up is Feb. 10)
Each event will begin with a classroom open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Teachers and current students will be available in their classrooms to answer questions about each course in the school’s five career pathways -- engineering, human services and finance, arts and communication, computer science and health science.
An overview of Summit Technology Academy and early planners breakout session will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in the school’s event center. This session provides general information as well as tips to help middle-school students and high-school freshmen prepare to enroll in the program.
An accelerated early college program breakout session will be presented from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. in the event center. This program will focus on the Missouri Innovation Campus program.

Congratulations to our Wildcat Cross Country athletes who competed at State! Senior Kaylee Harp earned 19th; junior Conner Blixt took 53rd; freshman Allie Grimes got 100th and Alex Barta finished 125th.
Congratulations to the HHS Football Team who will be playing for a District Championship Friday November 15th at Grain Valley HS.
Congratulations to the Wildcat volleyball players named All-District - 1st team All-District: Brooke Miller, 2nd team All-District: Kennedy Smalley, and All-District Honorable Mention: Rylee Smalley. All-Conference awards went to 2nd Team All-Conference: Kennedy Smalley , All-Conference Honorable Mention: Brooke Miller, and Academic All-Conference: Arden Middaugh, Elizabeth Bostic, Rylee Smalley, Kennedy Smalley, Kaylee Turner, Erison Maxwell, and Chloe Shepard.
Congratulations to the Wildcat softball players who earned post season honors - All Conference Academic awards (3.5 or higher GPA and Varsity Letter) - Taylor Fordyce, Hailee Ricker, Hanna Scott, Alyssa Wilson, and Hattie Wilson; All Conference - 1st Team: Hailee Ricker, 2nd Team: Lucy Shopper, Honorable Mention: Macey Butler and Julea Abernathy; All District - 1st Team: Lucy Shopper and Hailee Ricker, 2nd Team: Julea Abernathy, and Honorable Mention- Meadow Vassar and Hattie Wilson; Lady Wildcat Team Awards - Defensive Player of the Year, Hattie Wilson, Offensive Player of the Year- Hailee Ricker, True Blue Award -- Taylor Fordyce, and Christina Collins Memorial award- Meadow Vassar and Addison Sousley.
Congratulations to the cross country team who brought home top finishes from the conference meet. Senior Kaylee Harp just missed becoming a two-time conference champion finishing 2nd by ONLY .2 of a second. Kaylee did finish her MRVC career as a four-time All-Conference runner. Junior Conner Blixt and freshman Alex Barta were named All-Conference for their 5th place and 10th place finishes. This was Conner's 2nd All-Conference finish and Alex's first.
