Volunteer Screening Process

Like many other youth-serving organizations, Nebraska 4-H makes youth safety a priority. Nebraska 4-H makes youth safe by screening the volunteers that work with youth. 4-H has different volunteer roles. Reach out to find out the different ways to volunteer! Depending on the volunteer roles, there are different volunteer screening processes.

Wilderness Wonders Camp

We are starting to plan for a fun fill summer. We would love to be able to provide an overnight camp experience again, however, we need male chaperones to stay in the cabins. Male chaperones must be at least 19 years old and complete our background screening process and chaperone training. They would need to arrive by 5:30 pm on July 6th and stay until 7 am on July 7th. We would provide supper and breakfast plus a campfire experience. Please contact Melissa Mracek at by February 1st if interested.

Special Garden Project

The Special Garden project gives 4-H members the opportunity to grow a new and unusual vegetable or flower each year. The project allows experienced 4-H gardeners to grow something fun and exciting while letting those who are newer to gardening get their feet wet in the horticulture project area. This year the focus is on Rubenza Cosmos. These plants produce unique flowers with petal that change color as they age. Pollinators and beneficial insects are attracted to the blooms all summer long.

To get started with this project enroll in the Special Garden Project within 4-H Online and contact the Extension Office or Melissa Mracek at by January 15th to get your seeds ordered. Seeds cost $0.50 per person. For more information about the Special Garden project and the resources visit
