May Eagle Update

This is SUMMIT. We are EAGLES. We will RISE.

From Mrs. Adams

I cannot believe that May is here, and the school year is already coming to an end. It has been an amazing year full of memorable events, changes, and learning. School year 2018-2019 marked the advent of school wide one-to-one Chromebooks. Learning on a digital platform supported through Canvas brought about new and exciting learning opportunities. This exciting new horizon was not without minor bumps in the road, but I can genuinely say that our students' learning experience has been enhanced through the diligent work of our teachers. Additionally, this year Summit hosted many extremely successful events such as Camp Summit, Open House, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Honor Society, vocal music concerts, band concerts, orchestra concerts, plays and musical productions. During 2018-2019, Summit's 7th grade academic team boasted a 1st place finish at the OJABA district meet and a 3rd place finish at the state meet. This school year Summit had 13 band students earn the "Distinguished Soloist Award" and 17 orchestra students were selected for the 2018 North Central Honor Orchestra. We had 106 students in 7th and 8th grades that were named to the Edmond Honor Society. Our 8th grade boys' and girls' basketball teams brought home three tournament championships, and it was particularly exciting to see one of our Summit Eagles win the State Geography Bee. In addition to academic, athletic and fine arts achievements, my heart swelled with pride this year as our students demonstrated their kindness, compassion, and strength in working together by collecting over 6,331 food items for the Summit Food Pantry (twice as much as was raised last year) and raised $4,667.63 to benefit Pivot Inc. our charity week receipent. Almost every day of the week after school, I could find a teacher sponsoring an after-school activity, club, or sport and abundant student participation.

I am proud of our students and teachers. Summit is a one of a kind community. I truly believe we have the best teachers, staff, students, and families. These are the reasons we have had such an amazing year and why we will continue to be such a great school and a great place to grow.

I will miss our tight knit bunch of 8th graders as they move on to begin their high school careers of and I wish them the absolute best. I am very excited for the future of Summit, and I wish all our students and families a wonderful summer.

Tdap Clinic for 6th grade students- Wednesday May 8th

ATTENTION, PARENTS OF 6TH GRADE STUDENTS!!! Oklahoma state law requires that all students entering the 7th grade receive the Tdap immunization (Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis). Proof of this immunization must be submitted before your student is permitted to enter the 7th grade, no grace period allowed. In an effort to aid parents in ensuring that proof of Tdap is provided prior to schedule pickup day/the first day of school, Summit is partnering with Passport Health for a Tdap clinic on Wednesday, May 8th, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. In addition to the offering of Tdap, Meningitis and HPV immunizations will be offered. School year 2019-2020 will be here before you know it. Please help us prepare by either consenting to your 6th grader receiving the Tdap at Summit's clinic on 5/8 or providing proof of your student's Tdap prior to schedule pickup day. Parents wanting to take advantage of Summit's clinic only need to do the following:

1. Fill out a consent form which can either be picked up in the main office or printed from the pdf file included in an email sent to parents of 6th grade students earlier this month. You will include either a copy of your insurance card or note your insurance company, member ID, and Group #. Soonercare is accepted and uninsured students are invited to participate in the clinic as Tdap for these students will be covered by Vaccines for Children (VFC).

2. Turn in signed/completed consent form to the main office no later than May 7th, 2019.

Parents opting to take their students to their primary doctors must provide an updated shot record before a schedule can be picked up for the student.
