KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Kia ora Vogeltown whānau, welcome to the fourth newsletter for Term 4, another busy week. Big apologies for the postponement of the hangi, we want this to be another great whānau /community event and the weather has to be right. We will be doing it (rain or shine) this coming Friday 10th Nov. We will pull the hangi up at 1pm - so come and join us for kai!
It is so awesome to see all the hard work and learning happening in our classrooms. Term 4 is always a rush to get work over the term completed, to get as much learning as we can into our priority learners and incorporate all the end of year activities. Please keep up to date with the school calendar, Facebook, Skool Loop, Seesaw and the newsletter to make sure you have the dates locked in for this term - it is only going to get busier!
It was great to have a nice fine day for our school photos - the kids looked amazing! The code for ordering these photos will be emailed to you all individually. We will also have a master list in the office, if you lose it. There is a small window of delivery where there will be free delivery, so get these orders in early.
Next week we have another couple of big events coming up:
400 Day
We have reached a massive milestone for Vogeltown School - 400 akonga/learners! This is massive. To celebrate on Wednesday we will come to school in our PJ's, make some cool '400 hats' and do a parade at the senior school. Then take a photo of us all and end the day with some ice blocks! Whānau are welcome to join us from 2pm at the senior turf!
Vogeltown Hangi
As mentioned above, we have our annual Vogeltown Hangi scheduled for Friday 10 November, with our Yr 6 learners staying over at school on Thursday night. A big thanks to everyone who has donated items - we really appreciate all items and we put everything we receive in the ground. A reminder to bring a peeler on Thursday, maybe wrapped up in some paper in your child's bag.
Talent Quest
All the kids will be coming home talking about Talent Quest. This is another annual and exciting time on the school calendar. The Huatoki (middle) auditions are on the 6th November, the Paetoki (senior) are on the 7th November. The Taranaki (junior) auditions happen in their class over this week. The Talent quest final is on the 17th November.
REMINDER
A reminder that we have a Teacher Only Day on Monday 13th November (next Monday). This is in line with the Ministry of Education's curriculum refresh. We are meeting with other New Plymouth Schools at Te Whare Hononga and doing a day around our localised curriculum - incorporating Pukākā Pa (Marsland Hill) and St Mary's Church.
Have a great weekend whānau!

VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - 400 DAY!
Vogeltown School has just reached 400 learners!
To acknowledge this milestone, we want to have a '400 day' to celebrate. We are going to have this day on Wednesday 8th November. The day will be a celebration of the number 400. All the kids can dress up in their PJ's for this day. Each Vogeltown learner will be designing a 'hat' that represents their whānau and the number 400 - we will then be having a school parade on the turf at the senior school at 2pm, followed by a photo of all of our learners from a drone on the back field and then some celebration kai to finish (ice cream/ice block cake!)
All whānau are welcome to come and join us on this day at 2pm to be part of this celebration!
CONGRATULATIONS MISS SAWTELL!
A massive congratulations to Miss Sawtell (Lisa) and her partner Dylan with the speedy arrival of their baby boy Luca!
Luca was born on Tuesday afternoon weighing 6lb 5oz!
We are so happy for Lisa and Dylan, there are quite a few clucky teachers at the school now!
I am sure we will all get to see Luca and Lisa over the coming weeks - especially Room 3, who I know will get a special visit!
Check out the awesome photo of Luca being well looked after by Luna!
Ka mau te wehi Lisa and welcome to the world Luca Tuckey!

HATS - PŌTAE
A reminder to our whānau that all of our Vogeltown learners must wear a bucket hat in Term 4. The sun becomes more intense over the term, so the bucket hat is the best way to protect faces and necks.
You can purchase a school hat from the senior office for $17 but any bucket hat is fine to wear.
We also have sunscreen in the classrooms.

LEARNERS CORNER
Dylan's story
Down the road, past 190 Huatoki Street, there was a creepy halloween house.
Inside that house there lived a creepy old man. With grey hair and always wears BLACK!!
On the 31st of October he had a Halloween party. It had real dead skulls. After the halloween party the old man went missing and 3 weeks later the old man was found dead under my bed! One dark night I heard him walking up and down my hallway….saying I must find her!
Happy Birthday Vogeltowners!
