Dear London Families,
I first want to thank you for joining us at Curriculum Night. I was very pleased to see so many families attend and I hope the information shared with you that evening was helpful in understanding what your child’s educational journey will look like during the school year. I encourage you to keep the lines of communication open with teachers and other school personnel for us to share information that will help improve your child’s experience at London.
I also want to remind you that healthy snacks are allowed in middle school. Middle school aged children are in a developmental stage known as early adolescence, which is a time of many physical, mental, and emotional changes. One of the most visible changes at this age is their appetite. It is perfectly normal for a child this age to eat more than usual. It’s fine if they always seem to be hungry, this is because their bodies are demanding more nutrients as they experience frequent growth spurts in middle school. As we continue to partner with you on helping them navigate their early adolescence development, I ask that you consider and encourage healthy habits in nutritional choices. Outside the lunch periods during school, students are allowed to have snacks in their classes as needed. The allowed snacks in classes are: fruits, vegetables, and hard cheeses. Only water is allowed in the classrooms and we encourage students to stay hydrated during the day. Any type of sugary drinks (soda, frappuccinos, energy drinks, gatorade, etc.) are to stay outside school/classrooms or can only be consumed during lunch.
While I understand they are still children and like sweet treats, modeling and teaching moderation is a key component to helping them understand how food can also impact their mood, focus, and ability to learn. Thank you so much for your continued support and it is my pleasure to be serving your family.
Dr. Luis Correa
Principal
Yearbook Update!
Over 100 of our 300 yearbooks have already been sold! Have you purchased a yearbook yet? When an order has been placed, a student will receive a yellow receipt as a proof of purchase. Hold onto these receipts to remind you that you have already placed your order. Yearbooks are selling for $20 each. You can order your yearbook by turning the money and form into a homebase teacher or by ordering online. (Please see this flyer to print a form.) If you have a question about whether or not you have already ordered a yearbook this year, please email antonia.wroblewski@ccsd21.org
London's Grading Philosophy
Teachers use this evidence to assess student understanding of the content and determine content area grades. Feedback about student progress is provided to students and parents on a regular basis through the online PowerSchool gradebook portal, regular communication about the learning that is happening in the classroom, parent/student/teacher conferences, phone calls and emails.
Staff at London make every effort to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate their learning, which may include corrections on assessments or major projects, flexible time lines due to unexpected circumstances, or re-assessments during an identified time frame agreed upon with the teacher.
