Together We Can! - March 30th Edition
Congratulations to our Scientists!
Welcome to the first-ever Gayman Virtual Science Fair!
Please use this link Flipgrid | sciencemustang to view all the amazing projects, from today through Sunday. (You will need to use a CB device or CB username and password to login.) Each grade level has its own submissions. The children who participated put a lot of effort into their work, so please join us in congratulating everyone for a successful virtual fair!
Tomorrow, March 31st, all scientists will be awarded a special medal of honor. For in-person students, they will receive their medals in their homerooms. For virtual students, they will receive their medals during the materials pick-up. Congratulations!

Be the Captain of Your Child's Spark Team
In previous newsletters, we introduced the idea of what is a Spark and how your child can identify their individual passion. We also shared some videos to generate ideas for beginning the process. But what is your role as parent or guardian on this journey. As Peter Benson states in his book, Sparks (2008), “Your best role is to be the captain of your child’s spark team.”
What does this mean? Children really do want their parents to be involved in their lives and being that spark champion will increase the connection between you. For some of you with older children, you might be shaking your heads but it really is true. Younger kids delight in sharing their successes with their parents but the older ones may do this more internally. However they express this, know that all children want their parents to be the leader of their spark team. This role is easier the earlier you start the conversation. With an encouraging attitude, you can be an integral part of them finding that spark.
You are not alone in this mission. Children have a community to draw from for their spark team. Other family members, teachers, neighbors, coaches, mentors, and bosses can all take a hand in the development of our children by sharing their own stories and being there to listen and show encouragement. Take the lead and you and your child will benefit from your involvement.
For comments or questions, please contact Ginny Barrett at vbarrett@cbsd.org or Liz Meier at emeier@cbsd.org.
Coping with Setbacks
Tips include:
- Empathize with their feelings
- Teach them how to manage expectations
- Help your child with self-calming techniques

April Artists Bring May Magic!
The GHSA is calling all of our "budding" artists to create Art in April and then sprinkle it throughout the halls of Gayman in May.
Working together with Makers Off Main, we have created three different art kits for students to choose from. Each kit will include all the supplies needed to complete the project.
News from the Nurse
The Central Bucks Nurses are working hard to keep track of any student that has been in close contact with a person that tests positive for COVID 19. If you find out someone you know tests positive, please let me know and I can help you determine the next steps. It can be tricky to determine if you or your child is considered a close contact, so I am here to help!
If at any time you have questions regarding the COVID isolation and quarantine process, please contact me. I would be happy to discuss the situation with you and assess it based on the Department of Health guidelines.
If your child has symptoms, your first step is always to contact the Primary Care Provider for guidance regarding testing and symptom management. Please feel free to contact me directly for further guidance on your next steps after speaking with the Primary Care Provider.

Seasonal Allergies
If your child is prone to seasonal allergies, NOW is the time to start their allergy medication. Many of the symptoms of allergies are the same as symptoms of COVID (cough, sore throat, runny nose, congestion, headache).
Unfortunately, we cannot tell the difference so we would need to follow the Health and Safety Plan and send your child home to be tested for COVID if they developed these symptoms.
Medications in School
If your child starts a new medication, and they need medications kept at school, please fill out the appropriate forms and send them in with the medications.
Here is the link: Medications in school
Injuries
As the weather gets warmer and the kids are outside more, injuries are more prevalent. If your child has an injury that requires a cast or a brace of any kind, please send in a Doctor’s note that describes the injury and any restrictions.
The Health Office is here to provide support, such as rest breaks, ice packs and medication as needed.
Medical Forms for 2021-2022
- All 3rd graders will need an updated Dental form on file dated after 09/01/2020. 3rd Grade Dental Form
- All 6th Graders will need an updated Physical on file dated after 09/01/2020. 6th Grade Physical Form
Absences
Online Absences: If a student does not attend class, the student will be marked absent until we receive the communication from parents. Note: If a student logs-in initially, but leaves the call or does not engage, the comment "Virtually Cut" will be added to the comments section.
Feel free to reach out to Christine Stevens (cstevens@cbsd.org) with any questions.
Live Streaming
Live streaming is available for any student who is absent more than 2 days because the child tested positive for COVID-19, or the child is a close contact of someone who tested positive.
Once a teacher is notified, we will make arrangements including a materials pick-up at school. Live streaming will begin on day 3 of the absence, or earlier if feasible. Note: knowing that the majority of students in the class are in-person, there will be times when the teacher is not in camera view.
