Reality Day!

Reality Day

Reality Day is designed for our 8th graders to get a glimpse into the real world in regards to managing their finances and starting to think about their future careers. On Friday,in the morning, students participated in an event called Mad City Money, a program in which students assume the responsibilities of adulthood including buying a house, paying bills, and running a family, all while maintaining a budget. Students also attended several other stations throughout the morning that helped foster their future vocational vision. Students had a lot of fun along the way and learned some valuable lessons.

In the afternoon, students listened to guest speakers talk about their occupations in individual classrooms. From premier chefs to elephant trainers, students were treated to an array of first-hand career experiences.

Students' Combination Locks

Current 7th graders, who will be attending the new Strongsville Middle School next year, should take their combination lock home with them over the summer, and return with it next school year to put on their locker. All lockers at the new Middle School will require a combination lock. Students who return without a lock will be required to purchase a new one.

Making Memories!

Music in the Parks

On Saturday, May 7, many students in the CMS Performing Arts attended Music in the Parks at Cedar Point. Here are the results from their performances:

  • Show choir, select choir and jazz band all received "excellent" ratings
  • Chamber strings received "superior" rating
  • All 4 groups received 1st place in their divisions
  • Chamber strings also placed first among all string orchestra groups

I am so proud of our students and staff and the work they put in to being the best they can be in their performance area. I often brag about our choir, band and orchestra to anyone who will listen!

Student Spotlight

Michael Fallon, an eighth grade Magic team student, is this week's Student Spotlight. Michael is a straight A student, and very active at CMS. You might see Michael on our Morning Announcements, participating in our annual Dodgeball Tournament, serving on Student Council for which he was chosen to be an officer, or as a member of the Cleveland Clinic Adventures in Health, Science, and Medicine Investigative Team. Michael was also the winner of the Believe in Ohio contest for his invention, the Smart Shower Head. Outside of Center, Michael enjoys playing basketball, being active outdoors, and is a member of NEO Club Soccer and Strongsville Soccer Organization travel team as a goalie. His favorite goalie is none other than US superstar, Tim Howard, and he's a big fan of Messi and Carli Lloyd. Michael's favorite class at Center is math because although Honors Geometry can be stressful, Michael still enjoys the challenge. His favorite aspect of CMS is that it's more like a community than just a regular middle school, and the teachers are very nice. In the future, Michael would love to attend Harvard Business School, and play soccer for the university. After college, he's got a few options--- either play professional soccer or become a CEO of a large company. Sounds like some outstanding choices!! Whatever you choose Michael, we can see success as your ultimate goal!
