Hispanic Heritage Month
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, today we highlight author:
Elizabeth Acevedo was born in New York to Dominican parents. She grew up hearing the musical sound of the Spanish language as her parents told her stories of their lives growing up. She fell in love with writing when she wrote her first poem at the age of 8. It was then she knew what she wanted to do with her life - become a writer. Later in life, Acevedo became a teacher and taught 8th grade language arts. She was inspired to write the book, The Poet X, when one of her Latin American students asked her why they don’t read books with characters who look like them. She is known for her many books including, The Poet X, and Clap when you Land. Please stop by the library to check out any of Acevedo’s books.
- Our Varsity Girls Tennis team celebrated our seniors yesterday afternoon with strong play from the entire team, earning a 7-0 win over Ossining. Congratulations to all players and a shout out to all our seniors! The team will travel to Lakeland today.
- Our Varsity Field Hockey team improved their overall record to 6-3 with their league win over Nyack. In yesterday's game the players outshot Nyack 16-6 and were relentless all over the field. They are back in action this Saturday as they travel to John Jay.
